can we get the full points in holland?? i think arsenal will show their true class and dominate.. those youngsters at ajax have alot to prove to move on to the next level.. but bergy going back to his roots should have a real GO!!!! HENRY IS FLYING.... phishy
VdV won't be playing. That's too bad, but there's no other way. We can use him later on. I think Ajax will have a tough match, but I believe we are capable of winning. Zlatan will be on his toes and so will we. So anything is possible. I'm hoping for (and expecting) a very hostile and tense atmosphere. That always helps of course.
Hostile and tense football. Nothing better. I think we'll bust it out at the ArenA, and God's gonna do a little something for the home crowd. Phishy, welcome aboard, it's good to see new blood. Translate that away form at Maine Rd into CL away form and I believe we have no problems. Easy to say when you just scored 5 goals. Just dont stop playing after one goal!
I'm a Florida State University fan (Go Noles!) and an Atlanta Braves fan as well and I've seen these teams choke enough already (kygunner, you a Cards fan?) . I don't need my football team doing this to me, too. Vive le AFC! OPArsenal
Hey OPArsenal, if the Gunners miss a winner, would it make you cringe if it was "wide right"? Haaaaa...sorry, as a lifelong Canes fan, I have to laugh. As for how we'll play at the ArenA, based on our recent home/away performances, I think we're going to do very well. I say 2-1 Arsenal. Ajax fans, will the roof be open?? Dutch weather not so glorious this time of year, trust me...
Having just returned from the game in Amsterdam:- 1) Yes the roof was open. 2) The weather was glorious. 3) I think both teams were happy with the draw, particularly when the half time score from Valencia was announced. 4) A very poor game from both teams. 5) The atmosphere was not hostile. I will write a report on my visit there in due course.
The atmosphere wasn't really hostile indeed. Some wisthling and booing at Arsenal (booing seems to have taken the same boat to Holland as those ugly Burberry caps) and a few 'phuck off boring Arsenal' was about all. Reasonable atmosphere but we could have used some more fireworks. Especially more bombs. Arsenal were pretty silent again except for maybe two occasions. On the other hand, it can be hard to hear anything in the Arena. Accoustics are terrible. Had a good time Jeff? Been to our supportershome? We had a few Arsenal in there and they kept saying what a great supportershome it was (which is always nice to hear of course). It all comes down to march 11 now.
When the weather is nice in Amsterdam it really is one of the best cities in the world. I lived for three years, in the very southern part close to Maastricht, and the winter weather was horrible. Always about 33, just warm enough for the precipitation to be cold, cold rain. Cant beat the spring and summers though. When I went back to Amsterdam last year, over Easter weekend, the weather was about the best I've seen anywhere. On the last morning I was there, I was strolling along one of the outter canals, killing time before my train left, when I happened upon an Ajax team store. It was like there was a beam of light around it and trumpets sounding, I was so excited! Bought myself a hat and was like a pig in s***. Great memories; I envy anybody who lives there!
It's true, it is a really beautiful city. And the people are awesome. Can't stand the street dealers, though.
I've lived there for almost 23 years now (that's my whole life) and I must say that the city's going downhill. You have to wait 6 years for a (rental)house (buying is extremely pricey), more and more and more and more and more rules every day... the city is slowly falling asleep, thanks to all the rich outof towners who are taking this city over. Ever tried getting a beer after closing time on a saturday night? Enough shoarma bars and stuff are opened but they're not allowed to sell beer... ridiculous. Nightlife is being killed and so is queensday... it sux. And besides that, just about all normal neighbourhoods are being torn down to give the wealthy a place to live. Normal people can phuck off. Really too bad.
I think a lot of people feel this way about their cities. I feel this way about DC, and I know people feel that London is going downhill, to name but two examples. People always rave about your city, but when the city they're talking about is your HOME, then you expect more out of it. I always grumble about the way things are in the DC area much like you do Amsterdam. I've heard other Dutch people say the same things, so I guess it's generally true. You do live in a great city, even if it is sliding, I have to say.
Yeah, it's OK. You'll get yours. The 'Canes are gonna eat it this year without McGahee and Dorsey... Vive le AFC! OPArsenal
