Arne Slot - Parts Ways with Liverpool

I would think if we were dominating the ball we would be able to maintain whatever structure we wanted to and the opposition would have to adapt to us. It's when we lost the ball we were chaotic in our response often times having 6 players around the ball and leaving 3 of their players unmarked and in good positions. Sometimes just tactically the opposition would be set up to have us outnumbered in the midfield and there was no tactical change from Slot to address it. The Chelsea games come to mind because they did it twice to us and it Slot didn't seem to have an answer. This is why we had so many goals against this year. It's not like under Klop when the issue was obvious. ie Fabino lost his legs and could no longer protect the back 4, the year we lost all our CB and were playing with midfielders in those positions until they got injured or before the last midfield rebuild, when all our midfielders who used to cover so much ground lost their legs.

Playing Maca with Grav was not the best idea as maca's ability to defend was not there but there were other options that Slot decided not to use.

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think any of players we bring in is going to make much of a difference. Even if we get a Diamonde, without a system to get the best out of him and the rest of the team we're just going to have to rely of a moment of individual brilliance for a goal which didn't work well this past season

 

But how often does that happen in modern football when the gaffer has almost immediate success? Unprecedented! Took Klopp 5 years for Epl glory.

 

Slot inherited a set team that had been competing for first place the last couple years.

Last year Man City underperformed. Slot just made a couple tweaks to the existing and already effective tactics.

Wasn't there a similar situation with Chelsea a few years back?

 

See, I get the mitigating circumstances, the back to front seasons and what have you. All valid. But, from where I’m sitting, it doesn’t quite explain why we have been so poor, to the point of desperation, breaking all the negative records and looked, for all the world as if we had no plans to counter an opponents or manage a game. At some point this season, it looked as if the coaching group had just given up trying to win matches. That’s partly a structural problem, partly a mentality issue.


And the vibes I’m getting are that we need to spend money. Yes, we’ll need to replace the departing players but we’ve got the core of an excellent team already which won the league two seasons ago, a reason why the suits aren’t giving up on Slot, But even they must have doubts, and must be prepared to make change if we continue this floundering form.

And, all of this assumes our competitors will be just waiting, twiddling their thumbs, for us to sort ourselves to compete.

 

Dunno - i try to blot them from my mind as much as possible.... but I think 2017 with Conte - just a few tweaks and Eden Hazard being unstoppable??

I think Slot did well to adapt Klopps tactics so that the team was able to last the whole season. That led to last year's title.

This year he's been completely out of his depth and hasn't demonstrated any ability to adapt. I really don't think that would change even with a fresh start to next season and a couple new players.

 

Right decision. Couldn't go into next season with a huge cloud of negativity over everything.

I feel sorry for the guy - the job ended up too big for him.

 

I feel bad for Arne who I think is a nice guy and meant well but after last season this had to happen. The team needs a reset , some fresh ideas and next season will definitely throw up plenty of new challenges for this team.
