On a human level I feel sorry for the guy. A while back I saw some discussion about requiring the ppl at the club above the manager face the media a few times a year to explain what they're doing to build the squad and address concerns/weaknesses. TBH I'm not at all sure if that would help anything in the long run but managers are expected to face the media constantly and toe the company line, defending decisions that he - in some cases! - is not responsible for. At this stage he might be being hung out to dry while knowing the guillotine is being prepped.
I've said many times that, as a person, I like Slot. I think he's probably a good coach/ manager. But I think he's lost the locker room, he's sure as hell lost the fans. When he goes I will wish him all the best, but I don't want him here any longer.
I posted this in the game thread but i should have posted it here. Slot's really turning into a bit of a shambles. There is no question he has had to deal with some stuff beyond his control. But when you focus on everything he does control it really is very damning. Objectively he's been a disaster this season and there is no evidence he will be better next season.
I wouldn't be as concerned if I could see changes. Like adapted tactics, the team becoming more organised, or young players being blooded. But nothing is happening. It's just one excuse after the next.
And I do think we need to consider the human level, as well. That said, there’s a human level to the fans and lower-level staff at the club who don’t get paid the millions. Liverpool is an emotional club, more so than others. These performances hurt more than they would at the skip or Chelsea. Also, I don’t think DoF or higher ups should be seen anywhere near a press conference at all.
This is gonna be a crap summer. Crap WC to tolerate. Ridiculous US tour to tolerate. Worrying about the manager's position. Worrying about losing even more key players. Worrying about the ones we bring in making a difference.
If they don’t make a change this summer - Anfield will be a laugh this fall. It’s been over a year now that he’s been figured out and has no answers so far.
New signings from last summer aren't going anywhere and players like Mac, Gravenberch, & Gakpo are more than welcome to take the first bus out of town. VVD probably needs to retire or take a back-up role so that leaves Konate, Szobo and Ali.
I’d keep most, if not all the players, and see what they can do with better coaching and conditioning. Unless they want out.
Absolutely livid when the guy just wanted us to Call. With the turgid shit being served up this Season it was a no brainer to get Xabi in - considering he can get the best out of Wirtz
Salah has put the cat among the pigeons here. Posted on X and reportedly liked by many of the first team. StevieG said Mike Gordon has called an emergency meeting at the club. “I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that,” Salah said on social media. “Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. “That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.”
Fenway Sports Group (FSG) president, Michael S. Gordon, is personally going to look into the future of Arne Slot as the Liverpool manager, according to a report. Arne Slot sack: FSG call ‘emergency Liverpool meeting’ amid Mo Salah bombshell
Phil McNulty on Salah's post. Apparently, a bunch of first team players as well as former players liked the post. Dissension in the ranks? It looks likely. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cdepgn509k2o
