Much easier and plausible to replace the manager in the off-season than in the coldness of battle in December.
The bigger problem is falling out of the Champions League and even the Europa league. Slots team hasn't been improving. Team morale looks as bad as their fitness. I would have a different opinion if he was adapting his tactics, playing entertaining football, blooding youth or seeing gradual improvements in the team. But none of that is happening. He's become overly stubborn and defensive in his attitude and approach. I'd rather give someone else a chance then continue in this death spiral.
Well, as Sami has posted the owners have sent a clear signal that they are not going to be influenced by the supporters in this matter. Let's see how stiff their resolve is as the situation develops. It is not going to just go away.
Slot will continue to get the clubs backing for now since its counter productive to do anything else. How we are in contention for a CL spot again baffles me so hopefully the club has a long hard think about the coaching after the season ends.
Post game today Slot said words to the effect "next year we'll definitely be better if we het the players in that we want". Could be: - bravado - standard positive-spinning - indicating we have plans that the club as a whole have a lot of confidence in, regarding style and effectiveness of play. Wish I knew which one.
Won't matter who they manage to get in, if the players are not relevant to the playing strategy and style, if the training and conditioning are mediocre, if the tactical decision-making during the match is flawed we will get the same results imo.
Kerkez and Frimpong have how many assists this year? 2. I think it’s safe to say that we’ve moved away from the Robertson/TAA/Klopp model. Which is fine. There’s more than one way to play this game. But if you going to eschew ($10 word!) 25+ assists from one particular style of play, then it must be made up in another. So it won’t come from the CBs or the FBs. OK, fair enough, then it’s got to come from the midfield. And a midfield of MacAllister, Szobozlai and Gravenberch is not set up to deliver 25+ assists per season. So now you move up a line. The forwards. I don’t see 25+ assists per season coming from our forward line even if I am including Wirtz here.
No champions league, no decent players. The CL is the path to a bright future for most. That goes for our current players as well.
I’d like to see you try with an injury list so comprehensive that you should be playing for Liverpool. Can you even fart and pick your nose at the same time these days, Eschew Boy?
Melissa Reddy article. She thinks it's time for Slot to go. https://bymelissareddy.substack.com/p/arne-slot-is-a-premier-league-title
David Lynch yesterday too. It's odd - maybe management has decided this isn't going to work even for the start of next season?
The team being so poor and unmotivated in two important matches is pretty damming. Yes we've had a lot of injuries but guess what? we're going to have injuries next year. I understand not winning the title because of injuries or even ending up 10-15 points down on where you want to be, but we're 30 points off our target, just not good enough. If the decision is he starts the season as manager next year okay I guess. He won us the title so I understand an argument that he gets a 3rd season to show which is the real Slot, but he'd better come flying out of the blocks or it's going to be really bad really early.
I think that argument has holes in it, which isn’t really strong when you start objectively looking at it. He took an 82 pts team that came third the year before and turned them into an 84 pts team that won the league. There were no player changes but a seasoned team. He deserves credit for this and his work with Gravenberch. I just don't view it as creating a miracle. We need to look at his full body of work and assess if he is the right person to manage Liverpool. This has already been heavily discussed and I believe he isn’t up to the job.
Ornstein also has said that Alonso is not in Liverpool's plans at all and the club fully intend to go in to next season with Slot as coach.
If that's correct it seems the club is all-in on the merits of the 3-year rebuild plan. Large testicles at play. So to speak.
I’ve heard the same, but not Ornstein. Others who would be in a position to know or at least have a very good idea. I’ve resigned myself since about January, that absent Slot getting his dick out in the center circle at full time, he’s starts next season as head coach.
I've just watched an Anfield Index pod re Alonso and they were quoting sources saying Alonso was willing to come to Liverpool but wanted gaurantees of control over players comings and goings. He hadn't had this at RealM and didn't want that situation to happen again according to them. I imagine Hughes would probably not want to cede that control . But who knows? All conjecture but I'm not sure I can handle another season of tedious Slotball.
