We'll see. I'm optimistic about the Copa but I'm also a realist. There's been a huge variance in the types of performances we've put in so it's hard to know what to expect.

I'm just so excited to have a real live tournament ahead of us. Hopefully, the boys can cleanse away that Gold Cup stink from last summer.

Great article. My expectations are higher than a meek quarterfinal exit.

For a long time team performance exceeded the pedigree of the players. Now team performance fails to match pedigree.

Very true. Never thought about it like this. It's all about man-management, IMO. If we can get the right players on the field and work on our tactical ability we should be able to over-achieve even higher than years past. Sorry for being platitudinous, but we lack the grit and determination sometimes that we used to have.

Top end talent makes a difference in soccer. Not only does this team lack a player as good as prime Donovan, it also lacks a prime Dempsey, prime McBride, prime Reyna, a prime Ramos, a prime Pope, and prime Boca/Gooch, a prime Davies, and a prime Jones (Jermaine),

You need difference makers to make a difference. This team is on the cusp, but not quite there yet.

I thought it was a team game, that it's about everyone running hard for 90 minutes, and building the squad around a concept and not a superstar or a creative player???

I see your points and raise you:
    • Prime Geoff Cameron
    • Prime Michael Bradley
    • Up-and-coming Bobby Wood
    • Up-and-coming Gyasi Zardes
    • Up-and-coming Deandre Yedlin
    • Youthful Christian Pulisic
    • Savvy Clint Dempsey
And all of these on the same team!

We've never had any of those players in their prime at the same team.
