Assuming that Cletus will not be ready for the match against Japan in Seattle, who will wear the captains armband. I've seen Donovan wearing it after Clint has come out of the game (El Sal game I believe). But I am going to go out on a limb and say that after his fine showing at Everton, Brian McBride will start at forward and be the chief for that match

I think I heard that Pablo could wear it, but once Armas is healthy he will take Pablo's spot, so giving it to Pablo doesn't make much sense.

the only thing I've ever heard about pablo wearing the armband was against argentina and that's only because he's from argentina.
i doubt it would be him.
my guess is keller or mcbride (both are rumored to be there)

If Keller is there it will almost certainly be him, being as he is from Washington.

Why do you say this? Armas hasn't been on the team in almost a year and Pablo has been playing some great ball. Mastroeni does everything that Armas ever contributed -- and more! (Plus he's younger too.)

Mastroeni has shown strongly in every game and has been very consistent in his time with the NATs (unlike Armas was.) There's absolutely no reason that Armas should be able to *waltz* right in and take Pablo's position.
    [/rant]

Keller should get the armband. Pablo second.

I agree completely with the entire post. I think Keller should be there and given a chance to win back a spot as the number one for the nats. That might be difficult with the level Friedel is at now.

I would hope for Richie Williams to get a chance to wear the armband but if that doesn't happen then give it to Keller if he is there or Pablo.

armas has to earn that spot back

so it is pablo's and i'm not sure if armas can earn it back

seattle will have no euros, so i would imagine that pablo would be the best fit... benny or pope would be two other options

so you want keller to fly half way aroundt the world to play in some meaningless friendly and then fly back to totenham with little to no rest?

bruce knows what keller has to bring and the best place for keller to be is with his club team, and staying healthy (which travel and playing like that wouldn't help)

The armband is greatly overrated IMHO.

    International Day: March 29th

    FYI:
Tottenham has a game on March 24th and next plays on April 5th. Keller should be in camp around March 26 or so and be back to rejoin Tottenham on or about April 1st.

    Re: International Day: March 29th

Thanks for the info. I think Keller should get in as many matches as possible that won't interfere with club commitments if he hopes to challenge for the #1 GK spot. He's having great success with Spurs, but Friedel is widely regarded as the best GK.

so then no rest for keller?

it's a completely pointless game for him to come in... why tire him out?

let him rest from the long epl season, it's not like kasey had much time off with the world cup this summer

Then again, it's not as if he exerted much energy in Korea last summer. :D

Actually, Jim, I read somewhere (okay, it was probably some bigsoccer jag-off aimlessly speculating, but still) that Keller would like to come back for this one and play in front of his friends, KK being from that region and all.

AS Socceramerica.com has stated about KK:

The Washington native is expected to make his first U.S. national team appearance of the year when the Americans host Japan for in a March 29 friendly in Seattle.

    Armband should go to Keller

i'm sure he would love to

and this sounds about right, but i honestly don't think i would even want him there... maybe if he doesn't do anything all week... and plays a half for the hometown crowd

it's no knock on keller that i don't want him there, it's just that i honestly think his club ball is far more important to his national team duties than jetting halfway across the globe to play 90 minutes against japan

but pride's a tough area, and arena may want him there just to have a once through with the new troops

and remember, if keller is our man for the confederations cup... that's a very long period of time with very little rest, meaning that every chance one gets to rest is incredibley important

but then again, it's not like i'm arena... so i suppose we will have to wait and see

    :)

Keller. He needs to know that he is still loved after sitting down in Korea.

Keller gets my vote. I must admit that before WC 2002, Keller was my preferred GK. So, the sentimental vote goes to Kasey.

    what about JOB?

JOB is healthy again, will play in the Japan game, and will be one of the team leaders in WC2006.

Landon is a bit young, McBride and Keller might not be in 2006. We should let a young, Euro-based player start filling a leadership role.

Freddy Adu, oh wait, 3 years too early. :D

I think McBride derves to wear it after his great performance at Everton, but so does Friedel. Maybe Eddie Pope? I know he's not a very vocal guy, but he's a vetern of the team.

Bacoanegra, Howard, or Donovan should wear it. Well.... first of all, what kind of line-up is expected?

why should it matter if he's euro-based? leadership isn't based on georgraphy.
