Armas to UK?

I am a bit amazed...I like Chris, but I think he/his game is a bit too slow for Premiership, and his lack of total ball skills will get exploited....

1st division yeah...but Premiership?

 

After watching Armas in the post-season, I believe he could play well in the premiership.

His decision making has been awesome in this post-season.

 

I think Armas could make it. Certainly there would be better players at his position in the Premiership, but he is more than good enough to hold down a job if he's healthy. He plays a nice, simple game and still has great defensive instincts.

It's now or never for him so if he wants it, I hope he gets a good offer.

 

Armas = solid defender. Nuff said.

 

I would have been skeptical but he is playing really, really well now.He really hurt the Revs and it was not just the goal.He was clearly the best player on the field for either team. Is it just my imagination or is he faster now than before his operation? I swear he looks thinner and faster than he was before the WC. Anyone else notice this?t

 

Good news for Armas, not great news for the Fire. They could easily lose Armas, DMB, Boca, and maybe even Ralph this offseason, but as I am a United fan, this really doesn't bother me that much .

 

Agreed. He looks like he's quicker to me.

I think he can hook up and do well for a premiership side. While he's never going to be one of the top 10 in the world at his position, I would think that there are more than a couple of premiership sides who can use a tough midfielder who really can get stuck in, win balls, and clog the midfield without making any big mistakes. And who knows, maybe with some more confidence he can fit a few more searching through balls into his game.

I think he couild very well play for a Premier side in the lower half of the table trying to stay clear of dropping down. I don't know about the financial situation, though. He's got to be at or near the MLS maximum and looking for a longer term contract. I don't think he can command the kind of money or terms DMB, Boca or Ralph can, so MLS may actually be in a decent financial situation to retain him. He probably understands that his USMNT prospects are better staying put as well. If he's on the bubble as far as starting overseas, it's going to be difficult for Arena to have him in to play qualifiers when there are other options here and staying at the club will increase his potential playing time there.

 

I think he could make atleast two if not three times what he makes in MLS playing for a lower table EPL side.

 

According to the same article, DMB's contract is also up at the end of this year. I thought we have been reminded repeatedly on this board that his contract isn't up for another year or two!

 

And this board is correct and the article is wrong. DMB is signed through 2005.

 

I've no idea what he could make in MLS, but as a first team EPL player (which he'd need to be if he needs a WP) he'd be being expoited if he wasn't getting at least $12000 a week.

 

Those numbers do sound about three times what he's making. Is someone going to sign him for 2-3 years? I'll bet that's the time frame he would want. Does he meet the work permit rules since before he was hurt he was a regular?

If he can pull in that kind of money he should go.

 

And come January, a few EPL teams in the relegation zone will likely need a solid D Mid, so Armas may fit the bill. He has looked really good this year.

 

armas covers more acreage and disrupts more plays than any other dmid in mls, and more than some dmids in the epl.

i agree with those who say that he won't be a star player, but he can hold his own at the mid to lower epl level.

 

I am impressed with his comeback from injury.He looks fantastic.

 

No, you are not alone in this perception. I've always liked him better than other DMid candidates, but I also think he is playing better than before the injury. Particularly his close control foot skills. Before the injury, one might have legitimately asked, "What close control foot skills?" Now, there is really something there. And, his timing and work ethic has never waned.

 

Armas would work well in the epl. He's hard nosed, wins balls and plays smart, simple soccer. I would have questioned him in la liga.

 

2 questions.

1) does that account for the exchange rate? Plus, he probably wouldn't leave without a reasonable chance to be a starter, right? So we aren't thinking scool-boy contracts. Just wanted to verify this point.

2) do you know where I can find salary numbers for EPL players? I figure that since some clubs are publically traded firms, this info has to be out there in some fashion.
