'El Burrito' is rumoured to be MLS bound. First, from Goff's Blog:

    Then:

That little blurb is from this story in Argentine paper La Nacion. It states that Ariel 'El Burrito' Ortega is being observed by MLS and is a firm candidate to reinforce the league. Now, Ortega is not a true #10, but is more of an attacking midfielder in the Christian Gomez, Clint Mathis mold. He had way more talente than either of the two players I just mentioned but Ortega let his career go to the crapper due to well documented battle with alcoholism. Is he on the wagon again? Does he still have half the talent that saw him compared to Maradona at one time? I don't know, but I figure he can be had a the SI maximum and not at DP salary. Also, he was a team mate of Juan Pablo Angel at River Plate (but so was Gallardo).

Vamos papa, you know Ortega is worth WAY more than Gallardo. He is also way more talented than Gallardo. Alcoholism or not. I don't even think that I have to provide any youtube videos to prove any of that. Another thing about Ortega that makes him a quality player. He possesses a physique second to none. In that at 34 he's probably still as in good shape as when he was 18. That alone is worth the DP salary.

I'd disagree with that, he's lost a step IMO in speed and his shooting skill. But still good at FK's and Holding the ball, still a demon with the ball at his feet.

This is all coming from his last performance from the last clash between Boca vs. River last saturday? I think.

Regardless i'd love for him to come to the MLS, add more quality to the league. Make it more fun to watch again!

Oshe Che, I'm just saying that he might be had for less than DP salary. He's about to turn 34 and is a recovering alcoholic. Does Osorio take a chance? Is Ortega even on his radar??? Probably not, but you never know.

You cant judge him by one game. The man is clearly leaps and bounds better than Gallardo. Ortega is by far more EXPLOSIVE and QUICKER than Gallardo. But to be honest I dont know how much these RUMORS might be true. Maybe his agent planted the story in the hopes of someone from MLS picking up the phone and calling. I know he had some financial troubles (he played for free basically from 2000-2004) in the past and I think that might have aggravated his alcoholism. Not saying that he wasnt a drinker from before.

You know he's from bolivian parents right? :p That bastard didnt want to play for us. Wouldnt blame him though, he basically grew up (born in Argentinia too)in JuJuy(sp.), a big bolivian immigrant area from what i hear. My mom's lived there for a minute when she was little. Who knows i coulda been ortega if things went different? :p

But for real though, yea he's still good i see it. He could def. be better than Gallardo, but the only thing i see him holding back is his drinking like you said. I remember reading how he played for free, it was all that shit wtih his contract. Didnt he sit out a season because fifa wouldnt let him play for a team because of contract crap?

But yes, i have a feeling if he came to NY or any other big city, he'd go out and have TOO much fun if you know waht i mean. The guy might relapse in a town like NYC.

If you ask me,with Ortega as enganche and JPA up front there isnt a defense in MLS that can withstand that assault. They understand each other and are more than capable of breaking apart any defense with out even braking a sweat. Not to mention that you have a player like Altidore up front as well. If only Ortega came to RB.

He is definitely worth DP money.

I don't know, if he hasnt relapsed in Buenos Aires which has a crazier nightlife than NYC I dont know if he would relapse. Unless he's a depressed drunk and drinks when hes not happy. That being said a new country, new language, new people might relapse him. Who knows.

That is to be seen, but i would love to see ortega here. He def. is alot of fun to watch. It would make things more interesting here in the MLS.

But for that to happen, Reyna would have to be gone. So i dont see RBNY getting him until next year, and by then he'd be 35!!!

LOL At anyone saying they rather have reyna over ortega. But with that said, i swear its not cause i like Boca, i got mad respect for Ortega, i just dont know if he'd be worth it at 35 next season most likely. Right now would be nice though, but i'm sure they'd have to pay a transfer fee as i dont konw his contract issues, and RBNY cant get him cause reynas taking that DP slot.

Maybe some other MLS club looking for a number 10 maybe? Rev's? I dunno

Its possible, im pretty sure though with Derosario in Houston they dont need him(from what i knonw they need a forward), Chivas... im not too familiar with their team to put any input. But i know REVs are in need for a number ten for sure.

Guys, have we not yet learned that we don't need players who had mullets at any time during their adulthood? Did we not learn this lesson with Meola?

I'm tired of Metro looking for geriatrics to be the savior. I'd rather have a younger guy maybe not as talented but that could be with Metro for a longer time.

To take the next step Metro gotta look for guys well under thirty at least 27.
