Lol you were right... Guillermo Barros Schelotto was just announced as Paraguay’s new coach.

This surely means Argentine players will continue to be capped.. who knows, maybe even more now than ever. I’m sure he’ll be pushing for Sandez, for example.

Read a story about the Paraguayan national team manager contacting Aaron Molinas (Boca) to become a Paraguayan citizen and play for them. . . meh

They are also eyeing Agustín Sandez(As mentioned above and in the last page). Sandez does have some potential and he’s apparently already started the process of getting his Paraguayan citizenship.

"Mi papá es paraguayo, pero la decisión es muy personal. Tuve un pasado en la Selección Argentina y lo disfrute mucho. El viaje de sparring fue uno de mis mejores momentos y me hicieron muy feliz. Tendría que pensarlo mucho", expresó en diálogo con Radio La Red.

I mean, he had some potential but I’ve never seen him progress enough for him to be a top class player, just like most of these players that go off to Paraguay.

Mexican'ts are trying to nationalize Nicolás Ibáñez so he can play for the national team. . . its getting desperate over there for the Tri. . . Funes Mori, Tata Martino, now Ibáñez, if they keep going the Tri should change their colors to albiceleste

I’m not going to lie, but it took me a second to remember him.
But it’s going to be interesting when the national anthems play, which one they will sing… I hope to see some footage of Chaco in the stands when that happens…:D

Yes, he’ll be in the stands when Argentina face Mexico, no? His son plays for Mexico doesn’t he?

yes. Ok. I can only imagine it’s going to be very strange for him. On the one hand I’m sure he feels the Argentine colors to this day. On the other it’s his son that will be out there. Maybe best case is for game to not really mean much. As a El tri fan I must say the mood is mostly pessimistic. 2026 is when things will be better as soon as we retire the holy cows of this team.

Kind of surprised that Pablo Mastroeni (now coach of Real Salt Lake) wasn't mentioned in this thread. He was a good player for the US, after leaving Argentina at age 4.

I’m sure he could help the US. He was never going to be a part of the seleccion.

I'm not too worry about this, the recent WC will make many players try to play for Argentina, especially if they're young like Retegui, but it's really surprising (and looks a little desperate) that Italy calls him when he is still playing in Argentina, usually they do this when he is alredy playing in Europe

They also called Zapelli from Belgrano for the sub21. Would be weird if they accept.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but the majority of Argentinians have Italian heritage so I guess, in theory, there could be a lot of Argentinian players who would be eligible to play for Italy if they wanted to.

Yeah I think as long as one of your grandparents is Italian or something (maybe further back?), getting citizenship is easy.
