We integrated young players like Enzo, Mac and Julian during the WC and it worked... so with the right management , 2 years should be enough to integrate new players for next WC. However, Messi played huge role in last two major tournaments & finalissima (20+ goal & assist contributions), so while we did just fine in qualifier without Messi, we've yet to see it against strong European sides. Also, since 2020 Di Maria always stepped up when Messi wasnt there and he already announced he'd retire this year.

I'm kind of believe that Messi will play in next WC, because if he's yet to retire from football then I dont see him willing to sit down from home watching the WC:whistling:.

Ideally, Guido would miss out and replace him with a future potential LB (like Barco or maybe Ortega), but don't see happening. One can hope though!

That's one thing that I hope they can learn. Argentina has a history of overlooking younger in form players. Even Diego was excluded in 78 at home. It worked out then but more often that not we paid the price. You just need to pick the most in form players, it's pretty simple: play your best hand and forget seniority. We have this idea that younger players need to be groomed for ages and slowly incorporated but that actually not only never works out but is also a stupid gamble. You can never predict the development of a player with their career/injuries/playing time etc.

And they are very close too. Good arc to redemption for both of them, after being so heavily criticized for years.

Messi man.... Watching this guy play is absolutely addicting.

In other news, Molina got injured today and needs 20 days of recuperation. Should be fine for the Copa.

There is nothing more beautiful in all of sports ever than Messi playing football.

He is so far ahead as the GOAT in football that it’s not even funny anymore.

Probably the greatest sports person ever with Muhammad Ali.

The one v the Netherlands was slightly more important. Just slightly. :D

I have him up there with the likes of Federer, Jordan and Brady. Even at their advanced aged, they managed to amaze us all.

Matías Rojas: "Messi surprises me every day since I got here. I didn’t expect to receive that pass from him. From one moment to the other I had the ball at my feet and I didn’t know how haha."

it wasn’t just the end pass but Messi’s whole sequences of play for Rojas 2nd goal and Suarez 2nd goal.

What i like about that pass is "pausa". It's hard to notice cause Messi does it so fast but you can feel Messi always pauses for just a moment so his teammate can run in right space, right time.

A lot of Messi's action are not recognized just because he makes it so simple, so quick.

Pep was right afterall when he compared Messi to MJ more than a decade ago. MJ won his last championship and MVP at 35 , Messi won WC & golden ball at 35.

Remember that all his Barcelona teammates back then who won WC and Euro, they always said how easy for Messi to destroyed all of them in training. I dont remember who told the story but when Messi gets mad in training sometimes he'd asked for the ball and he'd run the entire him and scored by himself.

Thierry Henry. He also celebrated like a kid when Messi scored a great dribble goal vs Zaragoza

RIP Menotti. He lifted Argentina first WC & u20 WC, and went on to live to see his country won multiple WC & youth titles.

"A goal should be just another pass into the net"

A lesser known fact : Maradona had 4 goals + 5 assists under Menotti.
Messi & Maradona are the only players to have 5 assists in El classico within 1 season.

He should just take the entire summer off and recoup and get healthy for the upcoming season.

Well, I'm guessing there are more than a few CB that this caught their attention; Senesi, LMQ, F Ortega, Balerdi. . . Now a few guys have a month to prove themselves.
