You know what, Nico didnt starts in CA final and Finalissima, didnt play at WC and we're victorious in those occassions. So I had no idea why Scaloni seems rate him so highly.

Didnt J Correa only out from WC squad because of injury? If they both play at WC , no doubt Scaloni will starts them in some games, imagine that! Scaloni also came from Bielsa's school. Like Bielsa and Pep, he loves high workrates and doesnt mind the absent of proper #9. However, Nico and Tucu are both below average for our team standard when it comes to helping and producing goals so it doesnt matter what the gameplan is . Those two simply lack creativity and overall skills.

Here's a pretty good article about it...

    https://www.fifa.com/fifaplus/en/to...elsea-coach-argentina-uruguay-2026-qualifying

"Bielsa does not usually have a Plan B up his sleeve. Following elimination at Korea/Japan 2002, he said: “Coaches are appointed for their style. We expressed ours for four and a half years and we stuck to it at the World Cup.”

As far as ‘El Loco’ was concerned, the only part of the process that could be changed were the players: Pablo Aimar for Juan Sebastian Veron, Hernan Crespo for Gabriel Batistuta, Kily Gonzalez for Claudio Lopez, or Matias Almeyda for Diego Simeone. But as for the frenzied style of play he espoused, that was never going to give way to a more measured approach. His commitment to attacking down the flanks never would be abandoned in favour of working the ball down the middle. There was no question of the tactical system being changed."

Apparently, this is Brazil's starting XI. If it is, then we should be able to dominate the game.

I guess Argentina and Colombia will get action in Miami and New York while us peasants in Los Angeles will get Mexico(If they even qualify) and or Honduras.

    Neat!

It’s just Copa America… I’d rather save the money for the WC two years later

Even when they played on the West Coast vs Chile in CA 2016 group stage I didn’t bother going.. too expensive, at least for WC it’s money well spent (if you manage to get tickets, that is)

The thing is, Tagliafico is not super fast or physical, but he's got a great first touch, he's great at building up from the back with short passes. And honestly throughout the 2022 WCQ he was very good with Lo Celso and Gonzalez on the left side.

I'm not saying we keep playing him, but I can't say anything bad about him, he fought with his life against Croatia and France.

I know the midfield got outplayed but I don't think the personnel are the issue.

Argentina's midfield have the technical quality and defensive presence to control the game against anyone, but they gotta have options to play the ball to.

Every time Mac and Enzo touched the ball, 3 Uruguayans would swarm them very quickly, so they either misplayed a pass or blasted it to the side with the winger losing the duel.

I believe we need more of a wide presence. Nico is losing every duo, when he finally controls the ball he can't dribble past 1 player.

I'm not sure who is providing width on that right side, but we need both sides to be more of an option to receive the ball and make a play under pressure.

I am not sure why Soule was not called up while we opted for Nico and Ocampos.

We don't like calling players from Liga Professional and Brazilian Serie A, but we should honestly consider calling Valentin Barco and maybe one of Redondo/Villagra.

The WC games after the Saudi game seems like an anomaly in the sense that all our players seems to be running like mad the whole game even at 120th minute of the game (Netherlands and France). Great tactical aside, the boys are so determined . Even Messi continuously running from midfield all the way to the box and unleashing dangerous shots.

I dont see how the players would be having the same mindset while playing in qualifier or friendlies. Especially with up to 7 teams could qualify and we're still sitting at the top.

Yeah for sure, it's not a best on best tournament where they're going to put everything on the line. They have club contracts to earn and it's in the middle of a season.

But still, I felt we were taking heavy touches and also holding onto the ball for too long, sometimes if we moved the ball a second quicker to an open man in disguise, we would've been a lot more successful.

Yes but I'd blame it on our preparation. Its pretty obvious we took this game too lightly. Its a home game, we're the champions, still sitting at the top even if we lose and will play Brazil in next game. Uruguay on contrary, hasnt beat us since 2013, and that was against our second string.

Probably, but I think not having much impact on the wing was also an issue because Uruguay could just triple mark Mac Allister or Enzo when they got the ball deep, and they would be forced to play a short pass to De Paul or Messi, that was their only option which was hard to under that kind of pressure.

If we could play a long ball sometimes to Alvarez making the run behind the defence, or to Molina and Nico on the wing, Uruguay wouldn't be able to press us in such a compact shape, they would have to be weary of multiple options.

I believe we should have brought Soule onto the team.

I've suggested Soule but its obvious Scaloni will probably not going to starts the young players until we finish this round. I hope he will not wait until after CA 2024, cause I could see us beaten by Uruguay or even Colombia in a bad day if Scaloni sticks with the same old players.

I also think Paredes could be useful in that type of game which our wingers couldnt give us a breakthrough. He has a good long passing ability, his piercing throughball and lob could be useful. He's also capable of hitting a long range when given some space.

Enzo is also capable but he has been more useful when playing closer to final third than as a proper "5" , unlike Paredes. In previous qualifier, I've seen Paredes assisted Lautero with his throughball and Messi also scored a tap in after his long shot blocked by the goalkeeper.

Its still funny when you see France supporters screaming about rigged WC. France also earned 5 penals when they won it. They won 3 penalties againts Argentina alone in last two WC. I think France is the only team that earned penalty in 3 different WC finals. That Materazzi tackle againts Maloude was softer than Dembele's foul on ADM.

Brazil Luis Fabiano scored a hand goal in WC 2010 , Brazil also scored two hand goals in Copa America 1995 againts Uruguay & Argentina and nobody seems to bat an eye on it.

All the major nations get dodgy decisions in their favour, back in 1982 the Germany goalkeeper didn't even get a yellow card for attempted murder against a French player, probably the worst foul I've ever seen.

S Korea isnt major footballing nation. They got away with murder againts Italy in 2002. Speaking of Germany, Neuer gets nothing for deliberately crushing at Higuain.

From Gaston, looks like both Paredes and Acuna will start. I would assume that there is no way that Di Maria will miss this game. If I guess correctly, the starting XI will look something like this

Dibu---Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Acuna---RDP, Paredes, Enzo---Messi, Lautaro, Di Maria

You know what, since the mundial… I no longer feel nervous about these games. After what we endured in Qatar, this is a piece of cake(Or pie since thanksgiving is around the corner).
