They sounded so insecure like those Brazillians before Copa final, and I love it. That guy should apply job at espn. We could have Pasarella, Ruggeri, Mascherano , their pundits would still say how we dont have quality defenders like England , Spain & Italy
100% One of the biggest difference in our team is the confidence that our defense has, and that all was fed from that insane monster we have between the post. Emi is a MONSTER. What he did in the first 20 minutes of the Uruguay game is the reason why the Uruguay game "easy"- and we also have Cuti. IMO, Cuti is the best all-around CB we've had since Ayala. The comment about the Argentina defense is "dated" - I agree. that was about our old team, not this. This is a completely new defense.
We had great defence aswell from 2012-2016. We conceided only 2-4 goals in 3 major tournaments during those period. Although it was down to Masche leadership rather than Romero's ability. We also played more conservatively, with a backline that rarely run forward. The current team is totally different, it reminds me of the 2006 team where the whole team was mobile and moving altogether. Now if we compare it to 2017-2019, then yea, our defence did suck at the time.
I like the fact that people are still sleeping on us. They think that we are the same side from the 2018 mundial…There is going to be a big surprise waiting for them.
Its super windy here in Buenos Aires right now, like tornado-windy (albeit for BA standards, thats not a windy city), i hope it calms down for the night, who knows where the ball could go with this wind Eventhough the weather here is usually warm, sunny and calm (like today it was sunny and 24 celsius) it seems that the days la Scaloneta plays the weather gets crazy . It will probably rain tonight, and it will get cold, i hope those hinchas with short sleeve shirts dont freeze in el Monumental
Really disturbing news coming about Maradona today. Anyhow, really hope we keep on winning. Thanks to SupaMario for reminding, but FIFA ranking is really, really important right now. Hopefully Scaloni and his team are aware of the fact.
Sh*t, theres like a dust storm here in Buenos Aires. Hope it slows down or game tonight is gonna be bizarre.
Maybe its going to be like Palermo's goal in 2010 qualifier where you cant see anything on the screen but storm... Surprising result happen from time to time. They once beat us 6-1 remember? But we still qualified automatically while they finished at 9th.
So according to the qualifier rules, yellow card will not be erased until the players gets suspended?
Hope to see some other players in the second half. Alvarez, Licha and Foyth for example. Peru are going to pack midfield so this will be a good test. Most European sides will do the same. Get the ball moving as quick as possible, down the sides over the top and switch play too with rapidity.
I just wish our players would shoot it hard when they're close to the goal. Less extra passes. Off course Emi was ready for that.
Another unnecessary foul from Paredes. One match that will cost us. The player is facing away from goal. No need to come in barging from the back. Hold him up then drop off and watch the run.
Lautaro being too unselfish that time. Molina is great at making the pitch wide. The left sided CB and LB cannot close on Messi without leaving him wide open. Great press and ball retrieval so far.
