I’m still pissed about how Gentile was allowed to hack Maradona the whole game in 82.

As long as the Qataris don’t come up with a bullshit excuse to suspend the game…

We are kinda in a sweet spot right now. 9 games left in qualifiers. We will have games in October, November, January, Feb and March. As strange as it sounds, the pandemic has helped the team come together. Not only winning the CA but having these games in such a short period will give them a more understanding of one another. Previous qualifiers, we’d have a game in Feb or March and then we didn’t play a meaningful game until November. So, we will continue to grow.

Furthermore, I hope when the summer months roll around(Summer, I mean in the northern hemisphere) rather than each player goes on vacation, I hope the core of the team come together and set up a mini training camp. Nothing grueling, maybe even pick a nice part of the world with beaches and whatnot. I think it will be good for them. Maybe a few weeks.

The good news about this tournament is, that it doesn’t start till November, where the players will be fresher.

As for winning it? I don’t want to get ahead of myself but I don’t see too many teams that will give us fits. We are quite balanced. Top class GK, CB, a good midfield, our attacking is coming together. I’ll say this, we will be difficult to beat. I say as things stand, we are a semi finals team.

We will know more answers by the end of qualifiers.

I love the mini training camp idea. I could totally see them doing something like that, the players seem to be really close, some of them even vacationed together after copa america (Di Maria, Paredes, Papu, Lo Celso, i think de paul? im sure im missing someone). I love how close this team is, i mean, like Messi said, there have always been good groups (the Masche, Lavezzim Higauin group was also close) but theres some kind of spark here, and Messi, this time, IS the real and spiritual capitan (Masche was before) to many new NT players that look up to him and, that, strangely, despite what people think, despite what even Diego said, suits him well. He is a wonderful capitan. He is much stronger mentally than in latter world cups. He is an amazing role model. All the other players love him. Theres no ego battle. A fabulous coach. It will be hard to beat us, thats for sure.

Uruguay plays Colombia, Brasil and Argentina next WCQualy date. I dont see them getting any point, tbh, im not so sure they are qualifying to the WC.
I see Ecuador and Colombia as stronger teams than Uruguay
And maybe Paraguay will fight them for the next spot.

To compare, Ecuador plays Venezuela, Bolivia and Colombia. I see them getting 6 points from this, they will easily pass Uruguay, imo.

Nothing is sure in this eliminatorias. Maybe BRA and ARG qualifying and VEN and BOL not qualifying, but the rest? Up for grabs

I favour Colombia and Ecuador over uruguay

I wouldn’t count out Chile or Peru just yet. Obviously they have to play better and start winning some games, but being 5 or 6 points from fourth place with 9 games left is not so bad, considering both their potential and the general parity after Argentina and Brazil.

As I see it, talent-wise only Venezuela and Bolivia are a notch below. Everybody else is still in play.

Chile would need to win 20 out of 27 points to maybe qualify.

They have away games to Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia and Brasil. How many will they get from there? Paraguay and Peru are also fighting for their lives.

They still have home matches v ourselves, Uruguay and Ecuador…

So, things are looking pretty dim for them.

The gap between Chile and 4 teams below them is smaller than with the 5th place Colombia. Its actually possible they might finished at 10th.

Chile only won a single game so far, the odds of them winning multiple games in a row is small.

I know it was Bolivia. However this is the best the team has played for a long while. In spreading the play, in movement off the ball, the one twos the desire to win the ball back.

It at times reminded me of the hey day in the noughties under Bielsa and Pekerman,. We still have reinforcements to come in. There is however no room for complacency. I am sure one or two players can still emerge in time for Qatar. There still needs to be a little more depth at fullback and certainly room for Senesi or Perez to put their hands up or Medina.

The Copa win has taken a huge weight off the shoulders of the side and Messi himself. They are playing with renewed confidence, vigour, elan and a joie de vivre. Not mentioning the camraderie. This is one united group. Scaloni may have been a last resort choice but it's proving to be inspired. He does not over ride anyone listens carefully to advice and works with the players. Aimar, Samuel, Ayala and Placente have a wealth of experience to add. Beccacece would be great to bring in as temporary analyst for Qatar.

As for Leo himself. Describing him is pointless. He shows no signs of fading. The hunger and desire is there for a World Cup. Playing for PSG and not having to take the load all the time with adequate rest is perfect for us. Lots of love to the little man and giant of football.

Lanzini… Can still be moved, and apparently he may go to Turkey? The Turkish window is still open.

What a shame. I guess his time with the national side is pretty much done with. He hasn’t been able to discover his form since he tore his ACL.

This is where our squad depth is extremely important. Also important to rotate players during qualifiers to build chemistry and squad confidence.

I'm looking at you Dybala, Lisandro, Palacios, Nico Dominguez. Gotta take steps forward.

Yes, and the laterales are also key to the pressing. That was my position, and it's a grueling job.

Bielsa had Zanetti and Sorin. Now maybe we don't have quite that level, but we have more depth. If Molina, Montiel, possibly Foyth, Acuña, Tagliafico, can alternate, that would keep them fresher, and then we can go with the best performers for the later stages.

Lautaro is playing great. The fact that his goal against Bolivia didn't count because he was about an inch offside shouldn't take away from how well he finished on that play. And he had others that came close. If he keeps playing at the level we are seeing now, he is going to be the CF that we've lacked since Bati and Crespo retired. Things do seem to be coming together nicely.

He also has formed telephatic instinct with J Correa & Messi in last few games. He assisted Messi & J Correa's goal after some fluid short passing move.

I think confidence is at all time high for most of our players right now, hopefully they didnt get careless and could take care of their physical condition which is crucial.

We've seen what happened to Messi, Kun, Higuain in a season leading to WC 2014. ADM tore his muscle after playing so many games for Real , while Gago with his constant injury like Kun.

I remember Messi was sideline for like 1-2 months in late-early 2013-2014, Higuain gets an ankle injury , didnt even return until Napoli last game which was Coppa Italia final , and only as a sub. RDP should watch out aswell, we know he's going to put alot of workrate playing for Cholo's team.

I didn't want to go back too far, b/c I am was afraid to let my age be known . . . HA HA H AH HA HA HA. But yeah, everyone looks at the 82 WC as "Diego was too young" but in reality, the refs were letting defenders beat him up. It wasn't soccer, it was a malicious attack on a skill player. Rough times back then for skilled players

I was just rewatching old youtube videos about the CONMEBOL WCQ for RUSSIA 2018. Remember that shitshow?? Damn, that was entretaining to say the least :ROFLMAO:

A LOT happened on the last date of the WCQ. The most famous is "El pacto de Lima" in where Colombia-Peru were tying 1-1 in Lima and the other results (mainly Chile, who was 5th before, was losing 3-0 with Brasil, and Paraguay was losing to venezuela 1-0). With those results, the 1-1 left Colombia as qualift directed and Peru surpassed Chile on goal difference and became 5, to play repechaje. At that point some Colombian player subbed in and told Falcao the news :ROFLMAO: and Falcao went player by player (even peruvians) "if we tie we both get in". So they started passing the ball with no attacking until the game was over:laugh: and in the end they both celebrated. Colombia qualified directly and Peru won the repechaje agaisnt new zeland and qualift to the WC after 36 years. Chileans were fuming cause that pacto left them out. If Colombia had won, Chile would have gotten in.

Also, Argentina was an uber shitshow with all the changing DTS. Argentina wasnt qualified in the last WCQdate and came from losing several games. We had a hard game in the Quito heights against Ecuador. Messi had been suspended for 4 dates for complaining to the referee (is this when the SuperMessi we have now was born??) and we needed him. Finally AFA appealed and we got him to play against Ecuador. Thank god cause he scored a hattrick and single handendly got us into the WC.

But there were suspitions about that game too, basically cause Ecuador put their B or C team (they were already out of the cup), mostly wiTH young inexperienced players. This is all speculation, not like El Pacto de Lima which you can clearly see happening in front of your eyes on the pitch. It was said that they didnt bother so much so Argentina could go to the WC. Nobody can know for sure what happened, but that last date from the WCQ was VERY thrilling and entertaining (seen from the distance, cause then it was terrible:ninja: and stressfull).

Also, to think that now with la Scaloneta we are gonna qualify early with several dates left, we are Copa America champions, we do have a great team....how much has changed in 4 years!!!:D

Yea sure, if we win the WC, skynews and the likes will starts saying how our opponent in final suffering from match fatigue, we;re on dope, their manager making wrong decision , Scaloni staff allegedly putting crystal meth on their drinks, Messi marker is sleeping, etc etc.

If Ecuador already failed to qualify with spare game to play, that means their A team is shit to begin with and those younger players might be better.

As for the change in Messi and the whole team mentallity, yea I think that farce refereeing in semi and the ban awakened the beast inside our players.

The irony is that Chile went to the escritorio to get the three points against Bolivia in a match that they had tied. While Chile was awarded the three points, the complaint resulted in Peru getting also three points in a game that they had lost. So Chile got a net 2 points and Peru a net 3 points.

In the end, if Chile had not complained to begin with, they would have gone to the World Cup - or at least to the repechaje - instead of Peru.
