He now needs either playing time or to get the ******** out of Germany. This goes for Palacios too. My point is a defender got hurt and now Medina is back in the line up.
Messi leading the freekick charts (last 5 years aggregate) by a looooong distance ... and to think that FK’s used to be his “weak point” Dybala also made the top 5, but he’d probably be second (only behind Lio) if CR7 never joined Juve and took his FK taker role..
Stuttgart seems like a good club for Argentinians. Nico Gonzalez is playing well, Klimowicz is developing nicely, and Ascacibar played his best football at Stuttgart. On the other hand, Leverkusen is a hellhole for Argentinians. Alario can’t get into the team no matter what he does, same with Palacios.
Just hours ago the IOC published their first COVID playbook, so I guess the Olympics are still on unless something grave happens between now and July
Both Pezzella and Martinez Quarta started in defense vs. Inter yesterday... Lautaro, on the other hand, only played the last 30 minutes. Right now Bayer Leverkusen is facing Stuttgart and Palacios and Alario are on the bench... the amount of despise I have for this club is incredible. Both Klimowicz and Nico Gonzalez started on the other side, although the latter was subbed off early in the 22nd min. Can't seem to find if it was due to injury (assumed it was since it was so early into the match), but if it is it's kind of concerning how often this kid gets hurt. Emi Martinez, meanwhile, maintained a clean sheet vs. Arsenal in Aston Villa's 1-0 win, making it 11 out of 21 PL matches played without conceding a goal. As for the Club World Cup (began on Monday), there are no Argentine clubs participating this time around, but Nahuel Guzman and Guido Pizarro (the only two Argentine players in this edition of the tournament) will be starting for Tigres tomorrow in their semifinal vs. Palmeiras.
Ascacibar is starting again since he’s returned. The problem is Hertha Berlin are not doing so great. They are close to the relegation zone. As for Palacios and Alario, I don’t understand that one. It is perplexing why they’re not getting serious minutes. Both need to leave in the summer time.
It’s messed up too because Alario made it clear he intended to leave on loan before the current season started because he was tired of being a sub for Leverkusen, but then they started him in the pre-season and the start of the Bundesliga, making him believe he would be the new starting CF after Volland’s departure. Yet lo-and-behold, as the season progressed, he returned to the bench despite at one point scoring 7 goals in 4 matches as a starter in league play. As for Palacios, I always take it they’re molding him as the long-term replacement for Aranguiz.... but dear god, is the Chilean going to be starting til he’s 50?
That’s Ocampos and Acuna both down. Infuriating luck with injures. The good news is that Palacios, Ascacibar and Foyth are back at least.
On a positive note; Messi has looked like the best player in the world again in 2021. Apart from the Supercopa vs Atheltic, were he played half injured, he has been good to great in all Barca's games.
Messi can turn in on when he wants. I don’t know how and why people ever doubted him, it is just foolish. It is about motivation for the guy. That is all. And he’s still 33, as we saw last night with Tom Brady, the guy won his seventh SB at 43. As long as you take care of yourself, you can play on for much longer than previous decades. With the advancement of nutrition and medicine, players are going for doing unreal things at older ages. If some idiot does not deliberately injury him, he’s still got plenty of good years left. A lot of our injuries on our end but some good news... Ocampos’ injury isn’t as serious as first expected. He could be back prior to the qualifiers. Dybala is also returning and could face Inter tomorrow. But some bad news. ℹ️ @nicoivang19 suffered a torn muscle fibre in the back of his thigh in the match away to @bayer04_en at the weekend, and is expected to be out of action for five to six weeks.#VfB wish Nico a full and speedy recovery! 🙏https://t.co/xMUtv5ePS8— VfB Stuttgart_int (@VfB_int) February 8, 2021
Di María out is no biggie, wouldn't have started anyway. Huevo, Ocampos and Gonzalez though, that is three big absences. Isn't Lo Celso out as well? Time for Papu Gomez maybe?
Guys, the next game is in exactly 5 weeks and 3 days. They will all be available unless they get new injuries.
Age is overrated these days. How old id Zlatan now? Or Tom Brady ? GSP won world title in his late 30s after 4 years retirement and MMA is physically alot more demanding. Pacman & Mayweather are still beating young guys in their early 40s. Same thing with Nadal & Federer. CR still doing good in his mid 30s, maybe not as explosive but you dont see player in 90s still that strong in their mid 30s. Also, players from the old days did not have protection like today's players. A harsh tackle from behind used to be legal and you'd only get booked after doing it 5-10 times. You can also bodycheck opponents without getting direct red. Just watch 80's serie A , nobody in today's football would still thrieve in their 30s playing in that era. If you watch Diego's highlight even in his Primera's days, those tackles would makes Neymar quit the sport. Messi hasnt been happy in past few years, its started since the begining of his tax fraud allegations and then the last season fiasco. It seems that his playing form depend on his mood now, not his physical condition.
