Yea, its mostly coping mechanism of being afraid to lose at WC. However, Almada's bad form is crystal clear.
Great, Simeone thinks he's still have to run another 30 yards while he can just shoot it. This team still has tendency to just keep making cute passes.
He's been awful and I hope he isnt being counted on but my stance is always trust Scaloni even if we think he's wrong which he has been in the past and will be in the future. He's earned the right to get the benefit of the doubt plus we cant change things. I can say Gomez, Buendia and Perrone along with probably Equi should be on the team but they're not and Scaloni is still the best coach in the competition. Two things can be true at the same time.
I think our passing and pressing was better in the second half. Colo played well, and he did so in RDP's area in the first half. I think our intensity got better but something I noticed is that at times when players were making runs behind the defense the player on the ball did not spot or did so late. Some bad touches here and there. Almada and Lo Celso are not starters. Giuliano is questionable at best. Licha looked pretty sharp, albeit against an inferior opponent.
Like 15 minutes of the match were lost making subs lol Good match from Barco and RDP, Lo celso and Palacios decent, Simeone improved on the right, Almada bad. Everyone else was average.
I'm not a big fan nor big hater of Almada and I gave Scaloni benifit of a doubt because he had strings of great matches in qualifiers including against our two biggest rivals and saved our ass against Colombia. But there's no way I could trust a guy who missed that kind of sitters. Its not like he's physically unfit like Lautaro in 2022. Imagine him coming in as a late sub at KO stage, no way you could trust him on shootout either.
If yiu think we're bad, you should look at the Portugal NT forum, wow, those guys hate each other. And everyone else.
Lo celso and almada were getting in each others way. On top of that Simeone started on the left too where he just sucked. We all know if N gonzalez is fit he will probably start there. So what is Almada's role? Like what scenario do you want him to come off the bench?
Just watched it. Okay. The main aim is to avoid injuries build some match cohesion and sharpness. Job done. Almada was okay but his finishing was dreadful but that goes for many of the opportunities scorned. I also didn't enjoy Licha going in so hard. Just relax and get yourself up for the WC. At least he will be very fresh considering how little he has played this season. Giay showed well. Ideally I'd take him and Capaldo along. Barco unfortunately ignored quit a bit especially by that prat Lo Celso. Lo Celso and Simeone lack that subtlety that does help in tight situations and composure. There's still time for Perrone to turn up when the breeze gets stronger and Lo Celso falls over.
Simeone is a player who could make an impact coming off the bench because he is quick and direct. But Buendia has that extra quality to create chances and score.
Yeah, Barcos played right midfield for RDP. Light on his feet, covered lots of ground, and clever with the ball. Would like to see him attempt more killer passes. Scaloni replaced him with RDP which was a like for like. I suppose he's thinking Barco can be RDP's replacement since the latter may not have legs for full matches. RDP played well, less tidy than Barco but more ambitious, killer passes. Almada botched 2 good chances. Poor overall. Paz would do a better job for Messi. Lo Celso was decent. Not sure what others saw. Oh yeah, he took the spot of their latest boyfriend. Exequiel Palacios is the most boring unambitious mid I can remember for the NT. I get he was playing defensive mid but even in other positions he makes Guido look like Maradona. Seems like he should have more game. We have to accept Giu and Nico for what they are. To me they are wingbacks, not real wings. They will cover the flank well and pop up for a few goals here and there. Forget about them creating anything on their own.
Almada sits behind the striker, link the mid to the striker, and good long range shot. His role is Messi replacement. Part of a 5 man mid, generally more advanced than Mac and Enzo but interchanging with them. See the match against Brazil.
Looks like Scaloni is going with mostly starters vs Iceland, as he wants the team to mold before the WC. Still can’t believe the tournament starts in 3 days and here we are playing a friendly, but alas… Expected line-up: Rulli; Capaldo/Giay - Ota - Licha - Tagliafico; De Paul - Enzo - Mac Allister - Palacios Messi - Lautaro Martínez I gotta say, these 4-4-2 formations are reminding me a lot of the early 2018-2019 Scaloni teams
The transfer rumors have already begun swirling, and word on the street is that Juventus have commenced talks with Dibu’s agent over a possible post-WC move Julian has also been linked with a Barca move for quite some time, but now in recent hours Sky Sports and Marca have reported that Florentino is allegedly determined to sign Julian as his marquee signing following his election win and would be willing to fork out the €150m Atletico wanted from Barca for the move Again, extreme humo for now, and it’s especially hard to imagine given Atletico’s hatred for RM… we’ll see
There is no width in this team. Is Palacios going to make runs down the sideline? Or De Paul? If we want to have 80% position, this could be good.
