To be fair, for as much as I criticize him he has been playing at a high level for the last month. Still don’t necessarily think he should be called up, but at least if he goes to the WC he’ll be arriving in his best form in the last 2 years
So some madness going in the Serie A. Como and Roma both won today and Juve lost, meaning if both Como and Roma both win their last game, they’re in the CL. Como’s last game is away vs Cremonese who are one point away from relegation(They play today v Udinese)… This means they have something to play for v Como… I’m hoping Paz does not rush back if he has a slight knock on his knee… Granted Juve will have to play away v their city rivals in Torino but I’m going to be holding my breath if Paz returns.
Looks like Montiel is out for 3 weeks. Considering the fact that Molina is out too, we definitely need a 3rd right back. My preference is Capaldo.
One journalist is predicting this... The news of Montiel's injury came just a few hours ago. I wonder if Bruno posted that tweet before it was known. Either way, love that Barco is there.
Slight correction, Como is in 5th but can still make the CL if they win and Roma slip-up. As I stated though, hopefully Paz will only play if he is a sub(Or not at all). I agree. I want Colo there. I think he can be one of those breakthrough players. We’ll see what Scaloni does. If he deems Montiel’s injury as not serious then he’ll call up Senesi and maybe Lo Celso over Perrone, which would be a damn shame because Perrone has all the skill set of a Paredes but Gio has a good relationship with Leo on and off the pitch. Technically, Scaloni can call up 4 additional players but that’s up to a certain date if a player gets hurt and has to pull out.

Messi continues to be in unstoppable form. A goal and an assist in the first half Messi makes no mistake for his 12th goal of the year. 💫@InterMiamiCF lead 1-0 at home. pic.twitter.com/QqiFVtiTgS— Major League Soccer (@MLS) May 17, 2026 Messi assists, Berterame finishes. Wow. What a run. 😎 pic.twitter.com/RGsxFTcVS9— Major League Soccer (@MLS) May 17, 2026
He's always been better going forward. Scaloni's double left backs - Tag-Acuna - was not a bad idea on paper.
Not that I want to feed conspiracy theories but I have a vague recollection that this pattern has appeared before other world cups.
Watching how Messi scores and assisting these days , we definetely needs midfielder who could push forward in final third to connects with him constantly. Nico Paz presence would be crucial. Somebody like Nico G and Giu who runs at full speed while looking down at the grass aint going to help. I dont think Scaloni will tries to rely on our wingers to make diagonal run. Even in 2022 , the only players who actually did some damage by making run from the wing were Messi (Croatia), ADM (France) and Acuna (Netherlands).
I still believe in Simeone granted he hasnt been great for Argentina but he has shown flashes. Except that debacle as a RB. Maybe some Scaloni magic to try him on the left, this team is desperate for some width.
Thinking back on this cycle for Scaloni, I give him credit for trying some wingers. Garnacho obviously never materialized. He definitely needs to go to Italy or Spain to play. Scaloni was big on and even took him to the CA. Carboni was perhaps the most promising. He played well v Costa Rica in the friendly in LA. He also looked good at Monza. I think he was signed for Inter and loaned out to Marseille but he tore his ACL(Has tore it twice now) and has never recovered. Soulé never got a fair shot. Perhaps Scaloni saw him as a player that played in the space of Messi whereas Garna and Carboni were on the other side of the pitch. But to be fair, I am not sure if Mati has had a good season at Roma, at least in the second half. I don’t know, he starts a lot of games but I’m not reading too much about his progression. So, Scaloni saw something in Giuliano and he’s stuck to it. Limited technically but his physical ability is what I think Scaloni likes the most. Oh well… Maybe the next cycle we’ll see something from the wings.
Come on man... Bert is a clogger of the highest order. Messi put it on absolute plate for him. As he has done numerous times this season, only difference is that Bert usually miss those. Thought RDP, for what it's worth, had his best Miami game by far yesterday. And some of the balance and agility from Leo in this match was just astonishing. He still moves so extremely fluid at times, even when touching the ball 5 times within a second.
🚨 Nico Paz has pain in his knee. He wants to play for Como in their last match of Serie A. There's concern with the AFA about it. Via @arevalo_martin @ESPNArgentina. pic.twitter.com/dsXUBKUjRx— Mundo Albiceleste ⭐🌟⭐🇦🇷 (@MundoAlbicelest) May 18, 2026 Nico, there will be other club seasons, World Cup is only every 4 years and this might be your only chance.
If Cesc doesnt force him to play but he's willing to risk himself, then he has no one to blame if he's missing out the WC.
I was wondering why our media back home was not reporting on Paz' injury. In fact, I found it a bit baffling. We got plenty of news on Montiel and Acuña but nobody said anything until this morning. But I think as it was reported by the Italian press, it wasn't a major issue. However, I do agree that he should sit this one out. Maybe, maybe at worst come in off the bench. But they are playing AWAY at Cremonese, who are fighting for their lives to stay up in the Serie A. You know very well it's going to be a physical match. What I notice about Paz is that he has that drive like Messi. He is willing to play every single match and go for it. But sometimes, you just have to listen to the doctors around you. However, according to Gastón, it is not that major of an injury. I still think most of us would want him to sit it out.
Enzo scored his 15th goal of the season with 30 yards curler. He's been low key being the best midfielder this season.
