It's kinda strange how hellbent the Gallegos are to have this match played in Madrid. Give it a rest. Why should we as the World Champions cater to them? Im starting to get very worried about the squad. Licha injured again and no viable replacement. Otamendi is now injured and he's rinsed anyway. There's no legit LCB that I would be comfortable with they're either injured or not getting playing time or both.

Licha is expected to return pretty soon though. It does worrying since our defence has been the key of our success in last 5 years, particularly in CA 2024. Speaking of injury, Lautaro is expected to return next week. I'm glad Inter isnt on CL anymore.

 

Great for him, but he's definetely will not be in NT until the WC is over. That's great bicycle assist and he actually beat 3 defenders in such tight space to score.

Really dumb, multiple options were provided including a two leg with a game in Argentina and Chiqui Mafia said no to all of them. And why did he want the game on the 31st? What difference does it make? And you know this be used as an excuse to kill the concept for good. If these tournaments don't happen as scheduled multiple times in a row people just forget about them.

It was becoming obvious that this match was not going to happen. When I began hearing, “Let’s play at the Monumental,” I knew it was a bluff Spain would not call. They simply will not travel to Argentina because, for Europeans, traveling that many miles for a match is unacceptable.

As for the home-and-away scenario, it was believed the first match would take place in Madrid around the 27th. The return leg—get this—the Gallegos offered it to be played at the start of 2028. We also suggested playing after the Mundial, but the Gallegos, with their Euro qualifiers and Nations League commitments, had no open dates.

I am trying to figure out why we pushed for the match to be played on the 31st, which was supposedly an impossibility for Spain. Also, why was the neutral stadium option being pushed back as well?

Anyway, the biggest blow is not playing any games during this period. It is a hindrance, if you ask me. Yes, the team already knows how to play together and all that, but at least against Qatar, which was supposed to be our second match, we would have had time to experiment a bit.

 

Probably in the need to find the time to find logistics and travel and more training time with the team.

Great technically. I just worry about his lack of speed in the wing position. His physical limitation probably won't be good enough to reach the World Cup squad level imo.

 

That is a question I am trying to figure out as well. They cannot really bring up league play since the majority of our players are playing in Europe as well.

We now have no opponents to play against. We will have scrimmages against the Sub-20 teams. Before I hear, for the umpteenth time, that we beat Germany in friendlies before other World Cups and then lost in the tournament, I think it is important to face real challenges. We have faced zero competition outside of the qualifiers, where there were times we looked pretty average, and the Copa América, where again we were a bit lackluster.

It is not a bad thing to challenge yourself, and it is something we wanted. Now we sit and twiddle our thumbs.

 

It's not about the results being important, it's about the process and our coaching being able to see who is in form and worth calling up. Now we're losing information to fight with.

 

Yeah, those 2 questions are ones that neither AFA, RFEF, Conmebol and UEFA haven't really answered.

Apparently Spain found Serbia and Egypt as their oppositions in March. Can't believe AFA didn't had a plan B, C and D in case the Finalissima got cancelled lol.

I'm sick of facing Concacaf/Conmebol teams, but at this point, would face any team in March.

I understand that uefa didn't manage this well, but at the last moment there was a solid chance to play this game under fair conditions and we didn't take it. Uefa public statement, they say they offered both the 27th and the 30th as options. Curiously, both the AFA & CONMEBOL statements only mention the 27th.
