Almada was probably Argentina's best performing player in 2025, certainly top 3. I am talking exclusively Albiceleste performances here. I struggle to understand how you can think Garnacho is better? Zero football IQ, terrible technique, just a pace merchant really.
It's called having an opinion, now you might think it's rubbish, perhaps it is rubbish, but I don't rate Almada, he's done zilch at club level for a long time, now it's a low bar but I think Garnacho is the more talented player. But really we're 2 bald men fighting over a comb, the only young Argentinian player to shine since 2022 is Paz
I rate Almada higher and he's certainly contributed more to national team but I think we're a tad too negative on both, lol. Both of Garnachos goals had nothing to do with pace, he has a bit of a poachers nose as he seems to pounce on any ball leaking out and find a way to knock it in. Could be useful in a pinch, but he's going to have to do a lot more to earn a call.
I have been very very critic of Almada in this forum, I even asked for him to be droped, but since he's been in europe he is probably the one with the best performance with the NT. I also agree he is probably the best player this 2025, and I'm sure he'll be a starter at the WC. I think Garnacho is not a bad player, but the few times he played for us didn't do nothing. He needs a miracle to play the WC, Prestianni (who I don't like) and Soule are closer to the WC than him.
Pocketed Haaland again today Lisandro Martinez vs. Manchester City:— 100% aerial duels won — 100% ground duels won Nobody was picking him up today. 😉 pic.twitter.com/N91P3JEfJ0— Statman Dave (@StatmanDave) January 17, 2026
I'm glad MU isnt even on Europa and they're out from FA cup and EFL cup which means less game for Licha.
Watching Betis vs Villareal and Valentin Gomez seem to have won the LB starter position ahead of Firpo and R Rodriguez. I don't blame Scaloni for not calling up Valentin Gomez in 2025 as he just started playing LB in November for Betis. But if he is not called up in the March friendly and is behind the likes of Acuna, I honestly have no words for him. Gomez is everything that Scaloni wants as he is fast, aggressive, calm, and more importantly for Scaloni, versatile as he can play both CB and LB. Lo Celso needs to put in some PR for Gomez.
Almada worked his ass off that half. Was their most dangerous player too and got robed of a goal. Watch Simeone sub him at half now.
Buendia is a possible dark horse for the world cup. I'm dissapointed that other than Paz there's no younger Argentine player has really broken through since 2022.
60 mins in Alvarez, Simeone, and Almada sub out. TV off. Alvarez has to go to Barca this is a travesty.
I read this twice on here I think and its simply not true. Simeone, Barco, Perrone, and Soule are all one of their best players on their respective teams.
Soule should have been one that needed to be broken through in the national team, but I don't know what's going on in Scaloni's head. Probably Senesi too and he was about to be called up in the March 2024 window, but unfortunately he got injured. Shame that Barco's skillset is not really of a LB or otherwise, he would have been called up constantly. Buendia is a good player, but we already have enough of his profile.
A bigger travesty is Molina wanting to stay at the club 6 months before the WC starts. I just don't get his thought process - if he loves the club that much, he should just get a loan for 6 months. Cholo is underachieving a lot with this squad considering the money spent and the talent acquired. Team has to be playing so much better than this. The sooner Cholo leaves ATM, the better.
Currently, we need a Zanetti and a Sorin. In the future, probably a Dibu Martinez A Messi later on doesn't hurt either.
We all know Scaloni is very reluctant to call up new players to the squad, or if they are called up they'll sit on the bench and won't get called up again. The squad for 2026 is goin to be basically the same as for 2022 with perhaps a couple of newer players.
Messi debuted about 5 years after Maradona officially retired. If Messi retired in 2030, maybe we'll get another M in within 2030s.
I think it's worse than that. Some people wait for 2 good matches from their favorites and make them generational stars.
