As usual, I was up in the middle of the night to watch the Miami game. At this point RDP should not be a starter. Just no. He has regressed an incredible amount since the World Cup and all he is good for these days is arguing with the ref/opponents, dive for free kicks and the occasional decent pass. His engine is completely done and his feet moves like he is running in treacle constantly. Thanks for the memories, he was ********ing great, but it is over.

Excellent post! I am still 100% on board for Albi to take over the role after Scaloni leaves (and I’m not even kidding)

I think Mastantuono will be there more for his future (he'll be 22 in 2030) than for what he could do at the next World Cup. Unless he doesn't get enough minutes this season.

I was surprise that Foyth is behind in the consideration, my guess is that Scaloni is planning to play a back of 3 with Nico Gonzalez and Simeone if something happens with Molina and Montiel or Acuña and Tagliafico.

I guess it depends on the squad size. If it's 26, then I wouldn't want Mastantuono in it. He's far from being an option currently and I don't see him getting the playing time at RM this season to improve. If it's 28, then maybe.

Looking at Scaloni's previous decisions, he took Almada to Qatar when maybe there were players with a better present and could have been more useful. I doubt that he will left an 18yrs who is playing for Real Madrid

Good news. Use the November friendlies as a pre-season for Lisandro to ease him back in

ADM scored a direct corner. Needs to trade his international retirement with Otamendi.

One thing dimaria has over messi is he's never been afraid to take risks as an adult professional football player

    edit:

Also mascherano the worst coach I've ever seen. I think he took too many blows to the head

The biggest difference is obviously ADM simply has more longetivity when it comes to physical fitness. Messi has slowed down considerably particularly post WC 2022 and getting injured alot more easily. ADM still plays like a 25 year old most of the time. Maybe being gentically and naturally slim does help.

That goal was his 200th goal at club level.

What exactly do you mean by taking risk? Like moving different clubs?

It's ironic. Di Maria used to get injured a lot during his 20's (especially during the international tournaments between 2014-2016)

I'm guessing that the miles that Messi ran has finally catching up to him.

There are some national team players who will be partaking in the Champions League in not so well followed clubs.

    Marseille - Rulli, Balerdi, Medina
    vs Real Madrid - 9/16
    vs Atalanta - 11/5
    vs Newcastle - 11/25
    vs Liverpool - 1/21/26

Union Saint Gilloise - Kevin MacAllister (Even though he plays as a RCB in a back 3, he can still play as a RB - potential option at RB)
    vs Newcastle - 10/1
    vs Inter - 10/21
    vs ATM - 11/4
    vs Marseille - 12/9
    vs Bayern - 1/21/26
    vs Atalanta - 1/28/26

Leverkeusen - Palacios, Equi Fernandes, Echeverri, Sarco
    vs PSG - 10/21
    vs Benfica - 11/5
    vs Man City - 11/25
    vs Newcastle - 12/10
    vs Villareal - 1/18/26

Olympiakos - Ortega (potential option at LB)
    vs Arsenal - 10/1
    vs Barca - 10/21
    vs Real Madrid - 11/26
    vs Leverkeusen - 1/20/26

Paz biggest issue is that he’s not mediocre and does not puts his head down and runs fast aimlessly. That is what Scaloni is looking for and once he masters that, he’ll be in the starting 11 in no time!

Small cameo at the end from Carboni, had some lovely touches and was involved in Genoa's equalizer. Technically he is really, really good. And seems to have a strong frame as well. Let's hope he can stay injury free and play a lot of football this season.

The fact that Paz was not allowed to start against Venezuela and then had barely any time behind Lo Celso against Ecuador really annoyed me. I like Scaloni as a person first class. But it was time to give him his head and take the reins with Almada .

These are the two I would use for next summer assuming they maintain form & fitness. Not Franco as yet. Messi as a supersub. It would have been nice for Nico to work some chemistry with Leo as Thiago has been doing. Infact when Thiago was injured just before the Ecuador game Paz should have been given the 10 and told do your stuff.

Still young. Solid defensively although he does still have tendency to over anticipate still and throw himself in and not stand up when he should. Something that can be sorted out pretty quickly. Solid otherwise and a good passer although at Palmeiras his tendency is to drift into the middle instead of progressing down the flank.

His passing is super although because of his natural tendency to drift in he doesn't cross that often but when he does it's very good. Again that can be coached.

Also stamina like a tractor. good speed & balance shows his opponent down their weaker side too.

Serco three rounds into the Bundesliga. Yet to play a minute. They prefer the big lump Schick. It would not have done him any harm to stay another season with Velez.

If he is fit and capable say thirty minutes in exhausting heat & humidity he should come back. At least with the new base of the AFA they will have great acclimatizing to the humidity they can expect in May & June.

Schick scored 21 goals in the league last season, and he's got 3 in 3 this season, safe to say Serco's playing time is going to be limited!

There's no way Mastantuono should be ahead of Paz just because he plays for Perez team.

    Sarco gentlemen… Sarco.

Also, Echeverri going to Leverkusen and still lacking any significant minutes. I know he had his heart set on Roma but why not just go to Girona instead a side that is competing for a CL position like Bayer?

Sometimes players just need to go somewhere where they can play. That is all they need to do. Play. This is something that many young players need to understand. Kudos to somebody like Paz who took his opportunity and made the most of it.

The only thing that Leverkusen does since he joined is blocking him from playing in u20 WC.

The season just started, they fired ten hag - they just got a new coach last week.
Ezequil and Echeverri is what a lot of us wanted to see play together.
Give Leverkusen some time to get a team working since they're weeks behind being organized, with losing half of their players, late additions and a new coach.

Why go to Girona who are last place in the table with no wins.

With leverkusen he can play champions league football

The only unfortunate thing is palacio not being able to link up with the other two argentos. At the very least this frees up a spot for another deserving young player who can play in the next 4 games this year

Palacios always called up but never really played for the NT

Palacios has always been call up to be a sub. He has about 35 caps under Scaloni so he does get playing time, just rarely starts. He made more than 10 appearences in 2021 alone and actually had some minutes in all KO stage games in WC 2022 except the final. He played in CA 2024 semi replacing Mac so its obvious Scaloni never meant to have him as a starter.

In the season before a world cup, if you have ambitions of making the squad for the world cup, I think players, I'm talking about loan signings, should go to a club they are going to be guaranteed to get playing time, no matter how "unglamorous" that club may seem. Doesn't matter if it's Burnley or Girona or Stasbourg, get playing.
