Argentine League Relgation?????

Nueva Chicago ha sido relegado...que pena

Me dio mucha pena saber que un equipo tan tradicionalista y humilde como Nueva Chicago ha sido relegado a la segunda division del futbol argentino. Me gustaria saber cual sera el futuro de esta franquicia. Que va a pasar ahora?. Llenaran las gradas aun estando en la segunda division?

I was watching FSW Report and they showed the tables with two teams names in green, one in third place and the other in tenth. They said that the two teams play eachother to see who gets to stay in the top division. They also mentioned that since it was the team in third place's first year up that they have to play in the playoff no matter what their position. Is this how it works and does anyone else see this as unfair???

Hi.

In Argentina and almost all the South American leagues they use a different system for relegation. Mainly to the benefit of the big teams, so if these teams have a really bad season they will not get relegated immediately, like in Europe.

I do not know the exact rules but they use an average system to determine relegation. As you may know in a regular season there are two tournaments, "Apertura" and "Clausura", so if a team had a really bad "Apertura" but a really good "Clausura", the team is not going to get relegated.

I read somewhere that for a big team (Boca or River) to get relegated they need to be in the bottom of the table for 3 consecutive years.

CLUB CATEGORIES

Art. 74° The clubs directly affiliated to AFA shall be divided into the following categories - First Category, First National B Category, First C Category, and First D Category, and they shall act as legal entities. Likewise, indirectly affiliated clubs shall take part in First and First National B Categories. The Executive Committee shall be in charge of organizing the different competitions for each season, in which every club shall be enforced to take part, each in their respective categories and divisions. Two First-division clubs shall annually descend to First National B Category, four First National B Category-clubs to its original League, where applicable; two First B Category-clubs shall descend to First C Category; two First C Category-clubs to First D Category; at the same time, a temporary affiliation suspension for a maximum of one year shall be applied to the club, which, by the end of the First D Category Championship corresponding to the 1996/1997 and following seasons, records the lower percentage of points. Promotions shall be applied to those clubs adquiring such right in accordance with the results of performed championships as annually organized by the Executive Committee. Further, clubs entitled to promotion shall meet all conditions established in Arts. 76, 77, 78 and 79 of this Statute in order to play in the superior division.

Art. 75° Within ten days upon the completion of the First Division Championship, the Executive Committee shall annually announce the result and record it in detail, notifying the result to the Assembly. Category relegation shall operate with the sole announcement of the result of the respective championship, immediately. Relegations shall operate under the following provisions:
a) Following the respective championship, the average of points yielded by all teams in the last three championships played shall be determined and those two teams with lower point averages, shall descend from category, with the exception of the First National B division where four relegations shall take place;
b) In case of the First National D division, by the end of the 1996/1997 and the following seasons, a temporary one-year affiliation suspension shall come into effect, as a maximum, of the club with the minimum points average by the end of the Championship.
c) In case a team does not take part in some of the championships under consideration, the respective points average shall be determined, recording the points obtained in those championships played in that category.
d) Point average of a team descending in category and recovering it during the following season, the points obtained during the year of their relegation shall be determined without calculating them.
e) If in any championship under consideration, the number of matches is different, the average shall be determined by dividing the points obtained by the number of matches played for each team during the last three championships; and those two teams with lowest averages will descend in Category, with the exception of the First National B, comprised of four teams. For such case, provisions set forth in article c) shall also be applied.
