after watching my DC team get beat 5-0 to KC, i spoke with someone from the metrostars about argentina. from what he said, the following are NOT going to argentina and there are only 17 guys going: - mathis (hurt) - mooney (back to england - i wasn't impressed) - kieran (back to england) - lisi (hurt) - velez (waived) - frederic (returned back to france - bob didn't like him) - savarese (returned back to venezuela - bob doesn't want him either) - droze (gone - sucked) thats all he mentioned so you guys will have to see. thanks.
after reading your posts, i spoke to someone at bigsoccer about washington, dc from what that person said, here is the following people who are not welcome on this board 1. dcdog12 (back to dc....gay) you're welcome
Interesting. I thought that maybe Gio or Droze would work out as our 4th forward on the cheap. There's a long laundry list of players that Bob has not liked, any talk of who Bob does like?
Come on stinky, he might work for DC, but he always has intersting information about the Metros that is often true.
DcDog has been on the money with what he's said in the past. Let me ask him if he heard the same thing I heard from someone at the MLS offices (my company does some business with them) Metro will sign Guverra this week. Sheppard is rejoining the team in Argentina. There's another Argentino (possibly Capri?) joining the team this week as a trialist. As a related aside, should we have an interest in the following (From SoccerAmerica Daily) "Columbus has waived defender Ian Joy, 22, who had been claimed in the supplemental draft Feb. 28. He was tested at left back but couldn't beat out Eric Denton and Daniel Torres." "Trialist Paul Dalglish scored two late goals in a 3-0 win over the Metros last week at the Orange Bowl, but an observer said, "He scored with Kenny Arena trying to hold together a three-man back line between two guys nobody has ever heard of." Not going to Chile are Dalglish and ex-Wizards midfielder Matt McKeon. McKeon is still in the team's plans, Dalglish is apparently not."
If we sign Guevara and Sheppard works out on the left flank that would be very encouraging. Add another (hopefully) quality Argentine midfielder and we'll be in business. If Ian Joy really can't beat out an A-Leaguer like Denton then it's hard to think he's worth it.
I am not sure, but I think Sheppard would count as a Transitional Internationsl right? I would like to know what people who saw the team thought of Jacob Leblanc? One pre-draft report said he had good offensive skills, but was poor tracking back on defense & had a questionable attitude. Someone closer to the action said that the kid was a steal for us. I have no opinion on him, but I notice he's in the line-up every match. is that because he's been good, we're short-handed or a little of both?
yup...he does... but if someone hands me a loaded pistol, strings themself up, what am i suppose to do? having guevera and sheppard would be a positive thing....right now...as was the case last year....i'm worried about the midfield distribution....
What's up with the homophobia on this website? I'm not into political correctness, but those types of comments are insensitive to many out there, gay or straight, regardless of whether this was meant as a joke or not. I was once skeptical of dcdogs info, but it panned out pretty much as he said it would. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt from now on. So keep on dishing the news dcdog....
I've been hearing about Sheppard, is this the same guy who was with us for roughly.......a month, and played as a sub in a game against the Fire, and started another, but was then waived?
That was DUSTIN Sheppard. We are going after DILLON Sheppard now. I wouldn't mind seeing Dustin on the bench though. He seemed to have some talent.
South African international, haven't heard much about him lately; perhaps alot of talent but a similar American can be found at the same price? Its not worth the transitional international tag if he's not much better then a Matteo or Perez.
Matteo plays centrally and what's the cost of a transitional international? I haven't seen Sheppard play, but if he can play on the wing he is a definite improvement over Matteo or Perez. My guess is that we may be able to get Perez if the Fire sign Andy Williams (similar to the Paule deal). While Perez is a nice left back, if we have a good team he should be coming off the bench.
Goalkeepers - Paul Grafer, Tim Howard, David Comfort Defenders - Joe Addo, Joaquin Alvarez, Tim Glowienka, Steve Jolley, Chris Leitch, Eddie Pope, Tim Regan, Craig Ziadie Midfielders - Kenny Arena, Jacob LeBlanc, Jeff Matteo, Jeff Moore, Richie Williams, Ricardo Clark, Johnny Etcheverry, Michael Doyle Forwards - Jaime Moreno, Mike Magee Comfort is ex-UVa, drafted by Dallas in 3rd round and cut. Etcheverry is a young (1981) Bolivian midfielder, used to be with Oriente Petrolero. Doyle might be Irish U-21 (1981) midfielder from Celtic, has been on loan to Aarhus in Demark. I'm sure Bradley is gonna look at some Argentines as well.
"In Argentina, the team will face legendary Boca Juniors on Wednesday, March 19." And we haven't even fairly won a preseason game yet? I hope they can learn something from this! VAYAN CON DIOS
- frederic (returned back to france - bob didn't like him) I wonder if it had something to do with french fries and who is our PLAYMAKER ?
Glad to see the Metros are playing good competition while in Argentina. Hopefully a few roster invitees shine and make the team, and none of the veterans get hurt.
