Had Dybala scored that volley off of the Messi pass, it would have been one of the goals of the tournament.
Di Maria makes the most basic of mistakes. That pass to Otamendi was comical, him dribbling between three players and getting the ball stripped. When he’s on, he’s on, but his IQ for the game is as bad those Chilean neck-tattoos.
Yes, he's not a tango footballer. That's another reason why he gets so much criticism. Doesn't matter. He's been a top 3 player of ours for 10 years. Starting with the 2008 Olympics. This is the first competition that he's been poor.
Di Maria showed he can still sprint pass defenders but he simply dont have that quick footwork anymore. Also, his footballing IQ stops growing since 2014. He never really evolve when it comes to decision making. He's still a great players in his prime from 2010-2016 , he was fast and scores many wonderfull goals. That zig zag run that won Real Madrid the 2014 final. that cross for CR against Barca that won them Copa del rey, the winning goal in Olympic final, those goals against Switzerland and France... he always delivers those type of moments every now and then.
De Paul was our best player during the tournament. I wonder if he could maintain this intensity for a season. He might be the type of player who is more legendary during these short tournaments than career-wise.
By the way, the foul for Chile’s pen was outside the area. Foyth also said the same thing. Even with VAR they got it wrong.
Messi has refused to accept his 3rd place medal. The team are on the field now to collect their 3rd place medals and Messi is still in the locker room #CopaAmerica [tyc sports]
Our best players this Copa IMO 1. De Paul 2. Paredes 3. Messi (stepped up when the going got tough) 4. Lautaro 5. Hm... Armani perhaps Worst (of those that played more than 30mins) 1. ADM 2. Lo Celso (very disappointing) 3. Otamendi 4. Saravia 5. Acuna
AFA, Messi and everyone on the team needs to speak about this. It doesnt matter what the outcome, but they need to come out and say it. The one sided refereeing is even more obvious on this match compare to previous match against Brazil. They certainly wants to give a bad rep on Argentina while playing on their home soil. In today's game though, Chile still lost. I'm excited on this new team ahead of next year tournament and WC qualifier.
Of course it's subjective. 1. De Paul 2. Paredes 3. Tagliafico 4. Lautaro 5. Agüero Otamendi played well. No big mistakes. Acuña did his role.
My personal top 5 1. De Paul 2. Lautaro 3. Aguero 4. Tagliafico 5. Messi Tagliafico really made some great tackles and he knows how to foul while avoiding yellow most of the time. Even when he fouls them, its usually in safe distance, far from the penalty box and I love when he keep sticking his foot so opponent just cant settle when being marked by him. Not far behind Messi would be Dybala. He had an assist when he came in against Qatar, now scored against Chile when he started. Dybala probably only played like 90-100 minutes in this tournament.
I totally forgot about this game. Messi's second red of his career, I believe. So, he'll miss the first group game next year. Glad ARG won.
In English: Messi: "Maybe (being sent off) was mandated (from above) because of what I said. I didn't go ti the awards ceremony for many reasons. We don't have to be part of this corruption." "I always look to be truthful. I look to be honest. That's what keeps me calm. If what I say has repercussions, that is not my problem. you have to be clear and sincere, in this and all aspects of life." Otamendi: "Leo is right. It is quite evident that @Argentina were not wanted in the final." Scaloni: "It is quite evident. I've seen the replay and I am not sure what he did. The ref decided and VAR did not intervene. That is their job. It was all strange. Wonder if the ref would speak publicly."
Argentina should appeal that red card for Messi, I think it was harsh. If I remember correctly, so Messi was trying to get the ball from that Chile player, he got frustrated so he push that Chile player off the line. Then that Chile player got mad and chest butt Messi like MULTIPLE times. Messi didn't even chest butt back at all, as that Chile player continue to chest butt him to provoke him. Then bam, referee came and gave Messi a red card. To me with what Messi did, that a yellow, not red. Softest red card ever. UGH!! Argentina need to appeal this!!!!!
And I adoreeee Dybala, I don't know what the beep deal Juventus got with Dybala, trying to sell him and shi-t. They treat him terrible. I'm an Italy national team fan, and a Juventus fan too. But I feel bad for Dybala, maybe Dybala should go to a Spain club.
I love Dybala too, but he really needs to get out of Juve — no offense. They are after Lukaku, a battering ram of a forward, so that CRonaldo can benefit more. They also want to ship Dybala to Man Utd in exchange for Pogba. Dybala should go to Inter, or a Spanish club. Juve have repeatedly treated him like garbage.
Medel: "I think Argentina was badly hurt against Brazil, it was unfair, Brazil had to have expulsions and they did not get it. I feel admiration not only for Messi but for the entire Argentine team."
I’m surprised the ref didn’t stick his foot out when Lo Celso made the pass. Lukaku will likely end up at Inter. Juve want Icardi but so do a couple other teams. Inter have to unload him to make room for Lukaku. I am kinda interested seeing what Sarri can do with Dybala. No Spanish team will go after Dybala. They have their players, and Dybala going to Atletico would be a nightmare.
A lot of chatter now that because Messi spoke out today, we will get the “decisions” our way in Copa 2020. Not sure if true. Also, that if Messi had gone down — like Neymar and CRonaldo would have done — he would never have gotten the red card. Sad, but perhaps true — being fair and standing your ground hurts you more than play-acting. Current state of affairs in the world.
Many people probably didnt even watch when he got those 2 reds since they're friendlies & 3rd place match... but when they try to find out about it on youtube, they'd be surprised & dumbfounded since both times he did notHing wrong To be fair, Im not sure why Argentina should panic just because there's no Messi in first match of next year Copa. Watching the last few games, they're clearly had improved dramatically after the first two games that I totally convience they could handle whoever we play in that firsrt game without Messi presence With the likes of Dybala , Lautaro , De Paul, Lo Celso, Parades, plus having a better subs such as Santiago or Icardi instead of Mori & ADM, we should do fine without Messi. Remember that Messi missed the first game in 2016 and we won that game
Medel was sent off for violent conduct -- head butt and push. Messi should not have received any card whatsoever. Also, Argentina deserved 2 PKs versus Brasil. Where is VAR? It doesn't exist in Brasil I guess. Disgraceful.
