Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today Hmmm...meeting at LGA??? Guess it bodes better than the Big Tuna meeting anyone at Teterboro.
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today This tells me that Da Bruce is already in town and that his appointment (anointment? ) will be announced on the pitch before the KO today It could happen!
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today Hope so... we need stability big time and it might give da Bulls a pre-game boost
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today In historical context is this like when the Red Sox traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees?
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today I think it may be more similar to when Bob Bradley left Chicago for the Meadowlands (if that is considered historical).
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today It would be a great announcement, but why would Bruce want to start on game day, especially with our team? I'd want to start after our pathetically attended loss to the Rapids if I were Bruce.
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today No one else is reporting that there's a 12 noon conference call today, and it's 10:30 already.
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today Perfect. Just remember: even if Brucie comes here there will come a time when we'll all be calling for his firing. Hopefully it will be after several championships but it could also be, as with BB, after a few years of mediocrity. In any case, sports is 90% hope, 10% realization and BA would definitely give all of us a great deal of the former. =NLK=
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today It's true. US Soccer sent out a bulletin to all media members.
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today They must have really twisted his arm, or told him no more pasta, to make him take THIS job. It is a far cry from the EPL job that he was hoping for. The fact is that US soccer in general, and MLS in particular, need a strong NY area franchise, and they certainly do not have that now. Maybe Bruce will make the difference.
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today He is smart enough to know he blew that EPL job about 5 minutes in to the Czech Republic game.
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today he's out: http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_281153.html
Arena Out as U.S. Coach Here is the release. http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_281153.html
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today --------- "I would like to thank the players, coaches and staff who have been with the program over the last eight years," said Arena. "Their tireless effort has helped transform the national team program into something we can all be proud of, and I am extremely grateful for their commitment. I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience, and I would like to thank U.S. Soccer for the opportunity and their support throughout my tenure. I am proud of how far the organization has come over the last eight years, and I am extremely optimistic about the future of the sport in our country. As for me, I am planning to take some time off to weigh my future opportunities.” --------- how much time off will Arena need/take?
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today I have to think it's already a done deal, so not long. Credit to BA for his efforts over the past eight years; that it's time for a new approach does nothing to tarnish what he's accomplished.
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today Sure doesn't sound like he is going to rush into the Red Bull job. Not good for Red Bull Very good for the USMNT - I liked Bruce, but it is time for some new blood.
Re: U.S. Soccer conference call about Arena today Agree 100%. We live in a "what have you done for me lately" culture, sadly enough. Bruce's accomplishments far outweigh the mistakes.
