That comment was made before Bruce saw Tino's new hair. No way he gets called up looking like Cher, IMHO.

While I'm happy for Tino to be even mentioned for the nats, he's got a loooonng way to go in terms of work ethic and hustle.

As long as he's scoring goals, he looks like Batistuta to me

maybe throwing him up there with the "big boys" for a match will light a torch under his arse.

then again... it could just make his head even bigger.

I don't think anyone can question his hustle and work ethic from last Saturday's game. If he continues to work at that level for the whole season, there is nothing to worry about.

If you throw him in with the "big-boys" and he gets smoked, that will let the air out of his ego real quick.

Having said that, I hope he gets the call and does well.

He hasn't been too Batistuta-like lately. True, he scored Saturday, and that was a nice goal off great service, but otherwise he didn't seem to strike too much terror in the hearts of the KC defense, and Meola looked like he'd been more threatened in his career.

This could be a break-out year for Tino, but he needs to show that he can do it on the field.

    Striker = Goal Scorer

Hey, he can have Cher-like hair, flop on the ground like any South American, however, if he scores a goal in any game.... Well then, he did his job. If he does not strike fear into his opponent so be it. He scores a goal while looking weak, who am I to complain or for that matter Who Are You?

All the better to head the ball.

I think it would be good for 'Tino to get up there, to see what its like, but if he is called up that would mean we would be missing Convey, 'Tino, and possible Stewart for long periods of time, something that I am not to happy about.

    Excuse me?

No offence meant. Just that if he scores for us, what do we care what he does during the course of the game. He can have crappy OPTA ratings, he could be a scourge on your fantasy team, etc.. BUT, IF HE SCORES.......

Usually when it's 1-vs-4, the odds aren't too good for any forward to strike much terror... That is basically what Tino was up against most of the night due to the defensive nature of the lineup Hudson put out there..

As for the comment or implication that Tino doesn't hustle and work hard, that is laughable.. Moreno was the one you must have been thinking about.. For my money, Tino works his ass off...

I think it is much more likely to light a fire than inflate his head. He'll get knocked around a little bit, realize he isn't all that he thinks he is and settle down a bit hopefully.

Jiminy Cricket! you people must realize Tino's averaging a GOAL PER GAME!!!

I don't think Batigol ever had stats like that...

Let's hope so! People seem so quick to jump on him. (I certainly don't see how anybody here can have intimate knowledge of his work ethic.)

He's a really young player gaining valuable experience. It would be nice to see more DCU fans being supportive of Quaranta however frustrating it may be at times.

Using Moreno as a standard is laughable as well.

Tinos work ethics are not up to par with the worlds top forwards who make it a habit to run everywhere and be alert for any potential runs. While Tino is not as lazy as Moreno, he is lazier then the average forward.

The man (actually boy) definantly has the size and speed to be one of the leagues best, but his mentality needs to improve on the field.

I see him as a Moreno. When he was his age, everyone thought he was going to be a quality forward for Bolivia. He had speed and great skills, kinda still does. All that hype got to his head and began playing lazy. He never did get out of his lazy state.

Re: Re: Striker = Goal Scorer

Don't be too offended - it's just a cultural difference.

In the US, it's weak and dishonest.

In Latin American it's part of gamesmanship.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, or that the cultural views are right or wrong. However, those are the cultural views.

If you watch Ruiz, you see a big difference between Santino and Ruiz in work rate. His work rate is not greatest but definitely tolerable.

    Who's he?

What you wrote says, literally, that Ruiz has a tolerable work rate...I think that you meant this to apply to Tino, correct?

Regardless, if you are comparing a forward's (any forward's, any where) workrate...you've got only two models: Joe-Max Moore and Brian McBride.

Let's see if Tino scores a second goal before we put him on the national team... or sell him to Manchester United or Real Madrid.
