i have an appt in KoP at 8:30, so i'm hoping to catch the train around 9:30 what time are you planning on heading in?
looks like the team is doing their own partay We’d like to share a few details surrounding the festivities and invite you to join us for much of the day on January 14th, beginning at 11:00am for a pre-draft party at Fieldhouse (1150 Filbert St, Philadelphia, PA 19107). From Fieldhouse, we’ll all march together at 1:30pm to the Grand Ballroom of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, where the MLS SuperDraft is being held. We’d be thrilled if everyone could stay until at least the end of the first round, as the opening round will be televised on ESPN2. The national broadcast is yet another great opportunity to show the rest of the league and country what they can expect from Philly soccer supporters in just a few short months. Fear not if you’re unable to make the draft itself, as we’ll be introducing our first round draft pick to the fans at Dark Horse (421 S. 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147) at 5:30pm, Fado (1500 Locust Street, Philadelphia, Pa 19102) at 6:30pm, and Tir Na Nog (1600 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103) at 7:30pm
Looks like my choices from Conshy are 8:47 a.m. or 9:28 a.m., arriving at Market East at 9:20 or 10 a.m. Probably catch the later one, most likely. Get to McGillins by 10:15 or so.
The Fieldhouse is the old Independence Brew Pub, FWIW. It's nice that the team is so in-tune with their supporters.
Anyone know any good cheers in Kituba, Lingala, Tshiluba or Swahili? (Or know which one Mwanga grew up speaking?)
I wouldn't roll my eyes at that. The team is hosting an event in a place that makes business sense to them. They are holding an event for fans and are having meet the draftees at a place near and dear to us. I am happy the team and SoB will have separate events. I wonder which will be better attended.
I roll my eyes because I didn't see McGillin's on their list of post-draft destinations. Are folks heading to the DH afterwards, or going back to the place that not only was the birthplace of SoB, but also (for the second time) will be opening their doors earlier than normal to accommodate the fans? Is one more "near and dear" than the other? I realize that the DH, Fado, and TnN are all locations the team has held events at, and the Fieldhouse couldn't be any closer to the Convention Center unless it was in the Grand Ballroom, but my rolleyes still stands. And for good measure ...
I'll probably head back to mcgillins just cuz the food and beer are so much cheaper than anywhere else and equal or better in quality.
No, but by that time we'll have spent four and a half hours at McGillin's, so I'm sure we'll be more than happy to head over to the Dark Horse for a change of scene.
We figured that one out on team name announcement day - you break it. Peter Griffin and Frankenberry on the same escalator = problem fixed.
i'll PM you my cell in case i get done with my appt soon enough for the 9:28 train or if i get a ride in i'll let you know if there's an open spot or 2 umm, duh. the acoustics in the convention center will def make the one there seem louder i'll head over to the DH to meet the new draftee i don't know that i'll be going to any other venues though. in place to muzak. and you're gonna love every minute of it!
Heading up from CBus with HardHatMike for the Draft. Hopefully We'll be able to have a few beers with you guys.
