Is the premiership starting to turn into the SPL with only two teams in it. Its not that bad yet but it is starting to worry me.
Personally, I think its getting better. For the last several years, its pretty much been Manchester United and Arsenal in the chase. Now, Chelsea and Newcastle have made significant strides to catch up and will continue to do so. Liverpool will find its way again, and some of the clubs who have been stuck being mediocre or near the relegation zone, have good young players coming through and are improving. The EPL will NEVER get as bad as the SPL. The time to fear will be when Arsenal gets their new stadium IMO.
The SPL has two teams who get 6 times the crowds of anybody else and in total probably more than 6 times the total turnover of the rest. When Man Utd & Arsenal are pulling in 200,000 a week then they'll have the same degree of dominance, but not until then.
keep in mind as well the fact that newcastle, chelsea, and even everton were also contenders for the title at some point in the season this year. as opposed to scotland, where its basically rangers or celtic as the only two who even have a chance.
True. And Liverpool started out extremely hot and if you take away that horrible two-month stretch, they would have given Arsenal and ManU a run for the money. It's just that ManU had just about the best 2nd half of a season any team could have, even by their standards. Unlike other top leagues, England has strong teams top through bottom, not just at the top.
