I'm going to be visiting Arlington next week. Will there be any DCU open practices, scrimmages, etc then? I'd like to see them play. Also, will there be any good games on at Summer's? I'd like to visit and have looked at their website but I can't tell which games will be well-attended, especially by fellow MLS fans. The thought of having a few beers at 8:00 AM with breakfast and watching a game live game appeals to me (I'll be on vacation). I'd also be up for a good pickup game since I haven't been able to play any soccer for the last couple of months.
DCU will be in Charleston, SC on the 29th however I suspect people will be gathering at Summers for the US-Japan game (provided it's not cancelled). K
I don't know how good it is, but if you're downtown for sightseeing, a bunch of us Feds get out on the Washington Monument grounds every Tuesday and Thursday around 12:15 (corner of 14th and Constitution near the temporary Lewis & Clark traveling exhibit). With the hurricane fencing up around our regular field behind the Holocaust Museum and our end of the Mall, it's the only space available. Not ral competitive, but good for knocking the rust off. There's also an afternoon game on the Mall in front of the Air & Space Museum (between 9th and 6th streets). I don't get up that way often, so I'm unsure of the day or time, but I last saw them two weeks ago on a Friday around 3:15. Spend the morning and afternoon out and about, with a break for soccer. What could be better? dadman
BTW, if you need a place to change gear or shower off, I work in the closest Smithsonian museum to the field, and can arrange access to shower facilities. Just PM me for details. I'm all for keeping the air fresher on Metro dadman
The soccer sounds perfect. I'll try to be there. I'm not real competitive since I'm older and only started playing a few years ago after I stopped coaching. I don't play on a team or anything. I hope we won't get sprayed with anthrax or anything. For a soccer game it's worth the risk. The USA game sounds great, too, but I think I'll have to be on my way back by that time. I may stop someplace to watch, perhaps Ohio.
I'm sure there will be a slate of European internationals on Wednesday at Summers'. Usually, they are repeated in the evening. The Setanta games can not be so go to the website this weekend and the slate will be up. Right now it just shows games through today.
The only times you need to worry about being sprayed with anything is if you play for the USMNT and are playing in Central America or if you are at RFK when the Galaxatives pay us a visit! Winoman
Re: Re: Are There Any DC United Events Mar24-29? Unless you taunt Ben Olsen when he has a bottle of Gatorade DC will play American University on Tuesday, the 25th. I have no details; it's mentioned in Goff's article today (after the USWNT results in the Algarve Cup). http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...-2003Mar20.html dadman
DC vs. American 3/25 haven't known DC to have a closed-door match in the preseason, especially when they are playing at a local university when classes are in session
