Found this short news in kicker today:

Offence player Archil Arveladse (30) flew to the USA to check a MLS offer. Arveladse's last club was 1.FC Cologne, but they terminated the contract earlier this season. He is national player of Georgia, former clubs were Trabzonspor and Breda. In Bundesliga he scored 7 goals in 29 games, which actually is not too bad for a bottom ranked club, but honestly I did not even know that he still is in Germany. Don't know if MLS is doing the right thing to sign an ageing player, who never even was a star.

Right, like we all knew who Miklos Molnar or Jaime Moreno were before they were signed, right?

The guy is 30, he clearly can still be in the prime of his career. He must be an awful player though, no good player is ever let out of his contract.

These guys weren't really released. Their contracts ended and, due to relegation, West Ham isn't offering new contracts.

If he's a midfielder, he's probably the replacement for Grimandi in Colorado.

No, that is Shota Arveladze. He is awesome, although he missed an important penalty kick the other day.

I have never been in a state with more rednecks than Pennsylvania, where I went to college. The notion that the South corners the market on rednecks is pure fiction. Especially now that so many northerners who are tired of the hassle/employment situation up north are moving down.

In short, I estimate that the ----- Rays and ----- Lees of the South will soon be rare commodities.:)

    makes sense.

and about the rednecks... your right. we actually have a giant hippie population down here where i live. people who worship the greatful dead, phish, and especially widespread panic (athens, georgia natives).

atlanta is the new harlem (that kickin' 1928 harlem... not that 1978 version), which debunks any stigma left over from the segregation era. georgia is a weird melting pot now, and you only find the stereotypical bubbas in extremely small towns.

Archil... reasonable player. Don't remember too much about him.

He's very close with his brother (shota) so maybe you can get the both of them. Shota is (was at least) a very dangerous striker with a very recognizeable way of doing things. Always going for backline and then on to the goal. Scored some amazing goals for Ajax.

Well, I'd say the '78 Harlem- y'all do have a Sylvia's restaurant now & folks are wearing cornrows in earnest!

We won't even talk about Outkast's Big Boi & Dre's fashion sense & musical inspiration.

There used to be a saying in when I went to school there: "Once you leave Atlanta, you're in Georgia."

haha, well its changing slowly throughout the state.

i'm white and i grew up in the southeastern corner (which is very rural) and i thought it was always wierd seeing the generation conflict between the parents and kids. we all grew up in a society where black culture was on tv, at school, and was celebrated. we just had a completely different upbringing than our parents did and its mainly due to the fact that the schools were integrated. its harder to hate a person when you grow up next to them. hopefully, it will die with them.

Not quite, just this year, a high school in Georgia was featured on MSNBC or Fox News's "O'Reily Factor", for having an "WHITES ONLY" prom.

Just wanted to point out that historically this school had had both white only and black only proms, and then a mixed prom. They cancelled the while/black proms as school sponsored events a few years ago, and some group of white students independently resurrected the event.

Which is probably worse, but you'd think that Fox News, given their attitude towards such things, would approve instead of condemn it. They're a load of fascists and racists over there.
