Let's get this party started! The two groups of fans that I go back to 1997 with - all in one place - and on MY home turf. Woohoo. I'm thinking there's no reason (except maybe something going on in Lawrence) to keep us from putting together some righteous parties on Friday and Saturday in Westport. Possibly at Buzzard Beach. A pregame lunch at Arther Bryants anyone?
Well, it looks like the balance of the Eagles will fly in on Saturday - so I may head to Lawrence (or do family stuff) on Friday.
I'm up for it! I bought some of the sauce at the airport the other time I was in KC (the WCQ) and want to try it on something cooked properly.
Kevin, I guess this is now your department now. Lets do something special for the home opener. Burgers and brauts are allright, but I would much perfer some good BBQ. How much does a whole pig cost? It seems that a Keg would be in order. I am willing to pay up to $15 for all you can eat and drink. $6 for all you can drink $6 for all you can eat. Definitely a member discount. If the screaming eagles help to front some cost than they can take part of a member discount as well. And start the tailgate a bit earlier, more than 2 hours before the game. Just some suggestions.
I wouldn't get Bryant's...there's a place in Lawrence that has incredible prices for BBQ ($10/pound for smoked meats and $12/slab...plus, I'm down with the owners, and they'd probably give me a discount) and, well, would I recommend them if they weren't good? To me, Bryant's sauce and atmosphere are great...the meat is far from the best in KC.
I was planning on filling the keg anyway...what with the home opener and all (now I'm having flashbacks of home opener '00 with the KC Hooligans). I think we should all help out and make this the best Wizards tailgate ever (barring the Costa Rica/USA one, which went really well I think)
I think barbeque for the first tailgate is a great idea. I plan on bringing a lot of Boulevard anyway. Sam, I need to get in touch with you about getting this tailgate set up. I'm intrigued by your recomendation. Does anyone else have any other ideas for the tailgate? And to all the DC fans and Screaming Eagles coming in to KC: Welcome! I hope you have a safe trip.
Hey Kevin, can we set up something for after the game at the Buzzard? And is anything going on Friday night in Lawrence or KC?
Andy, I work at The Hurricane, not Buzzard Beach. As far as I know, the Buzzard never has a cover. I imagine that we can get some tables together (or sit out on the balcony again) if we get there not too long after the game ends (say 10:00 - 10:30). I don't know who is playing that night at The Hurricane, but I will look into it. I'm sure I could get some kind of group rate though if we did decide to check out the live music there. I will probably be playing a dj set at the Hurricane at about 12:30 or 1:00 am (after the bands finish) until close (but that is not definite yet). As for Friday, I do not know of anything.
As is pretty apparent by the posts in this thread, the only thing most of the regulars are concerned with is the pre-game tailgate. Friday night, Saturday after the game, Sunday with your mom, no one else really seems to want to plan the whole weekend to hang out with some guys from DC. BBQ sounds great for the tailgate, and I'm pretty sure I can help work on a keg. Jace, I just warn, in my last semester of college I kept a keg around a lot. It gets expensive as hell, dont want to see you lose a lot of money on it.
1) I certainly hope you don't mean that as rudely as it reads. 2) I'm looking for Friday for myself as the Eagles aren't coming in until Saturday. 3) As far as Saturday - last time I checked, the Mystics had a reputation for partying with anyone else that was willing. We're almost aways the last group to leave the MLS Cup Supporters bashes, and both James and I will attest to the good times that can be had drinking with the DC group. If you, yourself, aren't interested, that's cool. I didn't realize you spoke for everyone else, though. I'll be out drinking in Westport on Saturday. I hope some of you guys join us.
No, it wasnt meant to be rude. Just saying that from the posts on here, it doesnt seem theres much interest in organizing something afterwards. No, I'm not trying to speak for everyone else, from what I've read they have spoken for themselves by not responding to an "after party". The only thing I can remember truly being organized after any Wizards game were the two LazerTag nights. And I did state that before the game in B5, we all party, drink and socialize with anyone who comes up.
