From a Rapidfire email I just got: "RAPIDS ANNOUNCE EXHIBITION GAME VS. SCHOOL OF MINES The Colorado Rapids announced plans to play an exhibition game against the Colorado School of Mines men’s soccer team on Tuesday, April 1, at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played on the School of Mines Campus at Brooks Field in Golden, CO. The match will give Rapids fans their first opportunity to see the Black & Blue in action, and their first chance to see the Rapids players up close and personal before “Rapids Week” begins on Saturday April 5 with the ‘Dusk to Dawn 4 v 4 Soccer Tournament’ at INVESCO Field at Mile High. Log onto www.coloradorapids.com on Tuesday for more information on this game and ticket information."
Think hockey: start with a solid D and look for a rink. I'm really psyched to get to see these guys one more time in a competitive situation before the season starts -- one would have to think that Hankinson would be looking at putting out his opening-day lineup, shy of a very slight injury or two.
FYI, I looked at the main, upcoming events, and tickets pages and didn't find anything on ticket info. You may want to contact your ticket reps to pick up tickets.
I got the kitchen pass stamped so I will be in Golden watching the Rapids. I called the ticket office and the guy told me tickets will be $5 and you get them walk up at the gate. Is the stadium hard to find or do you just follow signs to the School of Mines and it is nearby?
Official Release from Colorado School of Mines Small Map of school, Brooks Field at 12th and Maple larger map Map of the field is under construction. Anyway, Washington Ave is two streets over. I hope to get over there Saturday after the viewing to find a good place, but any pre match dining places in particular that anyone wants to suggest would rock (I'll need dinner and a beer?).
The maps that the School of Mines offers are FUNNY! Why? Because they don't show that there is *NO* parking at the stadium (not shown in either of the maps Jeff offers). It's a COMPLETE shvte to hear the announcement at the 5 minute mark that all cars parked outside the stadium will be ticketted and towed unless they are moved immediately. And even more of a shvte when you get your car and realize you have to park over 1/2 mile away and get back to the game just before the first half is over. You'll carefully notice from Jeff's map links that the yellow visitor parking is almost non-existant. Some hints: 1) Park in downtown Golden public parking. Do not try to park close (there won't be any free spaces). And don't park at a 2hr meter/sign (you'll get a ticket -- if your car is still there when you get back). 2) GET THERE EARLY! The last Golden game was pretty much a sell out and the entire school (and most all Golden residents) will be there. 3) Dress warm or you'll be an April fool.
Here's a city map link: http://cityofgolden.net/dept/pub-plan/maps/MapBook/central.pdf The stadium is between Maple Street and Birch Street located on 12th Street. Washington Ave closer to Highway 58 is where the downtown district is (and parking). Can't remember exactly where. If you have to walk 8-10 blocks to find parking, do it. Golden loves visitor parking/speeding income.
Parking I think that parking was available in a dirt field behind the stadium (off of 12th street?) last year. I don't recall how much they charged for parking. Are they no longer allowing parking in this lot? Anyway, thanks for all the info, Jeff and GreatZar.
I spoke with the Mines athletics department directly, and they confirmed what Zar pointed out -- in their words, parking is "just kind of around the field in the area, wherever you can find it. There's no specific lot but there's plenty of parking." So much for tailgating.
If anyone else is going to be in the downtown area (short walk from Mines) before the game and wants to meet up for din din and a drink, PM me and I'll give you my cell.
That's what I'm hoping. There's three of us going, you'd be 4, TeamUSA 5. I'll be in the area around 5 to pick up tickets.
I don't know how early I'll be there, but maybe beating traffic would be a good idea... It would be good to try and get about 20 people...
Re: Parking GreatZar was absolutely right about the parking situation. The dirt (or grass?) field that was open last year for parking was fenced off last night. Parking options were definitely limited... Something to keep in mind if they do this again next year.
the score was Rapids 3 : 0 School of Mines. Grimandi didn't play but he was there watching in the stands, along with Spencer. the field has a huge crown on it, and Zizi has one wicked shot. none of the kids wanted to challenge Zizi...it was quite amusing, hehe. some kid from the School of Mines (a.k.a. the Ore Diggers), got a red card for tripping up Wes Hart. not much else happened though. it was real nice to see the Rapids play again though.
