Apple is still displaying the score on the same screen where it asks if you want to watch the game live or from the start. This totally ruins the experience for me if I want to watch from the beginning.
You have to turn off the "live scores" setting in every app and device separately. Which is annoying.
I already had live scores turned off in the settings of my Apple TV app on my Roku. So that setting doesn't impact the Game selection menus.
Weird. Although I don't have a Roku so I wonder if it's unique to that. But I really don't understand why the streaming sports sites don't do a better job of hiding scores. Nothing works better at stopping me from spending 2 hours viewing your streaming site than showing me the score as I navigate to the game. So frustrating.
ESPN is notorious for scrolling the outcome of the game you are watching during replays. I’ve been reduced to taping up a long strip of cardboard to obscure the scroll when I watch these games.
I've turned the live scores off in the Apple TV app on my Roku and the scores no longer show as expected. This is with an Express 4K+.
Just to be clear, what I am objecting to is when I go to watch a game that is in-progress, with live scores turned off, it gives me the option to watch the live feed or start from the beginning. When it does this it displays the live score on that selection menu. Thus for the Leon game, I started watching in the 33 minute and it showed the score as 0 - 0. Once I start the game, I don't see a banner script with live scores like ESPN displays.
Yeah FWIW on first-party devices I actively just went on a deep dive through MLS content and wasn’t able to find a score overlay. The closest we’re the description of some highlights stating watch player X score a goal kind of thing. it could be third-party apps on Roku/LG/PS5/et al., have slower update cycles and just haven’t caught up - though it may be worthwhile seeing if there’s an update to the app from the Roku store.
I will be watching the games the last weekend of August on a Roku app while visiting family so I will report back what I see then.
It would not surprise me if Apple was slow to update their app on the various 3rd party devices. This is a very Apple like behavior (e.g. iTunes). To check out if this is a Roku specific issue, I installed the Apple TV app on my LG Oled tv. It looks the same as the Roku. So when I go to the Galaxy page and scroll down to past games, the icons showing each past game shows the score of that game. This is the same icon used for in-progress games. However, I will recheck after the 4:30 games start to see how the in-progress games appear.
When the CEO of Apple starts tweeting about Leagues Cup and Apple+, then you know MLS is a project of some importance to the company Tune in tomorrow to watch Messi and all the Leagues Cup action with #MLSSeasonPass on @AppleTV ⚽️ https://t.co/ZqmybySBa8— Tim Cook (@tim_cook) August 10, 2023
There’s a very real possibility the highest rated MLS Season Pass game won’t be an MLS game which amuses me.
The remainder of the season is $9.99 now and if you subscribe to AppleTV+ it’s free. You can usually find some deals for 1-3 free months so you could probably get a deal to take you through the end of the season for nothing. As a bonus there are some pretty good shows on AppleTV+ https://9to5mac.com/2024/09/01/mls-season-pass-drops-price-rest-of-season/
I watched first season of Slow Horses. Enjoyed it but figured seasons 2, 3, 4 would be more of the same.
Severance, Shrinking, Slow Horses are three more that are really good. Foundation should be better than it is, but by god are the production values incredible.
