If you have an iPhone with an always-on-display the you can get live scores and one line play-by-play on the Lock Screen. Works really nicely and seems to be closer to real time than FotMob.
week 3 gripes, its such a PITA to move around game to game, Apple needs to fix this even the ESPN app was easier to maneuver I've given Apple and MLS some leeway with the start times but its starting to borderline on being ridiculous, these games are starting 15 minutes after the official start times, so much for the promise Apple made, saying start times would be prompt
I don't know how the audio for anyone else was, but I couldn't really hear the announcers in the first half as Apple had the crowd noise boosted. It got to the point, that I turned on closed captioning just to get a clue about what they were saying. I know that it was Apple because I watched portions of the NYCFC v Miami game and I could hear the announcers easily.
Yeah the crowd was mixed too hot for sure. They also were doing some interesting things with the surround. Don't know how they were mic'ing it, but the in-stadium announcer was mostly in the surrounds behind me.
It was pretty bad. Did get a tiny better in the 2nd half but I just gave up on understanding them for the most part.
What was also weird was the closed captioning. In the first half, most of it read like a really poor Chinese to English translation. In the second half it was quite a bit better. I was wondering if they were using the same audio feed that we listened to as input for an automated CC system. It never got a lot of the names right.
It’s interesting the amount of discussion and scrutiny the MLS/AppleTV has garnered. Not just here either, it’s on Twitter and reviewed in the tech press. I don’t recall this happening when MLS moves to ESPN+ or when they followed their own streaming package. It’s really great to see. MLS is getting more visibility, the fans show they really care, it’s nice to see Apple listening and making adjustments. I think it bodes well for the future.
This time around I placed my hand over the top of the device to make it to the "3 versions." I celebrated when I clicked the 90 minute replay only for the screen to fall down and....give me the highlights screen before the video came on. Spoiled two weeks in a row. **** me. EDIT: Love the opening montage. It's well done.
If you’re in an iPhone or iPad you can go to Settings > TV scroll down a bit and there’s a switch control to turn off scores (really should be an opt-in, but I guess given how hidden the control it would be hard to discover the feature) Apple could really do with a short onboarding process.
Yup - all the announcers were mentioning how to turn off scores during the broadcasts, so I'm guessing they've received a lot of complaints about that.
The same people who read the last page of the book first......you know, to see where things are headed.
But they clearly say “turn off scores to live matches “ meaning the score spoilers to finished archived games are intentional and not going away. It’s my biggest gripe.
right!? dude be talking like He's been in the industry for years and won a bunch of awards and stuff, this keyboard genius needs to go back to his parents basement, and think about his actions
Time to train your daughter how to use the remote and find your match without telling you the result! How old is she now- five? (wild guess on my part)
iPhone and iPad for me, but not if I pull it up with the TV.app on my Mac or on Apple TV. At least, I've not found a way to turn them off there.
Are you using the AppleTV or (confusingly enough) the the AppleTV app on a third party device like a Roku or LG?
