I never thought DJ was seriously in the running for the Apple gig. Surprised though that Dellacamera did not make the cut. That guy, to me, has been the voice of US Soccer for years.
that's a low bar... But I always kinda liked JP. And it's too bad they're putting Shep out to pasture. I think bringing up some younger talent makes sense though. There was a guy who worked with Danielle Slayton during the Women's Euros who was really good and they had great chemistry. I can't remember his name though...Jonathan something maybe?
Messing is trash, both as a commentator and as a person. (For example, he's not only a commentator but also an agent; an absolute conflict of interest. For a long time, he was also an employee of the team, an absolutely crazy and almost certainly illegal conflict of interest.)
Agents being commentators is odd, I agree. But broadcasters have been employees of teams in various sports for a long time now - I don't see how that's illegal.
No, it's the player's agent being an employee of the team part that is sketchy as hell. While he's hyping the player on the broadcast.
He was an absolute out of control lunatic. I was 14 at Roy Messing's goalkeeper camp, when on the last day Shep comes in to a big windup intro from the camp director guy. Shep comes out and leads an instructional session with us that was pretty ho hum until he starts telling us how to control and dominate the box physically and mentally. Most of the physical stuff was just plain filthy dirty. The kind of stuff that makes Clint Dempsey's nut check on Mark Bloom look squeaky clean. The stuff he told us to do and how we could psych out field players was epic. I learned a few words and phrases in that session that I have carried throughout my life play thing game and some of it I used to good effect. This is straight out of Shep's session. We were playing a game my senior year of high school against a team from our district in the state qtr finals. We knew them from playing them in our regular season and district playoffs. They had one kid who was all state 2-3 ys running. He was like 6'2" and built like a tank. Think of an in shape Zack Thorton. He's got a PK in the 2nd half of the game. We were down 1-0 at the time on a positively ripped shot from this kid in the first half. As he was placing the ball, my mind was moving at Mach speed and all of a sudden my mind settles on Shep Messing telling us that offering the shooter in a PK a drink from your cup will probably put him off his shot and it did. I was pretty profane about it and got a yellow. I get on my line and instead of putting it back in my shorts, I tossed it in the net on the one side and said to this kid, I am tossing it over there so you have something to aim at and proceeded to dive the other way. I guessed right, but he skyed this ball, easily over the buses in the parking lot. I am not sure it ever actually come down from orbit. Imagine teaching kids to do things like that. The early 80s were a very different time in the world and the game, but still.
Don't know about anyone else, but it's pretty much unwatchable. Yes, I've got an old computer and that certainly might be the problem. However, the game is literally at half speed and it buffers every 3 seconds.
yeah, you need to get off dialup, too. I have a problem with a slight delay of audio (and even more with the radio feed) but not with the video stream.
BTW . . . thinking of bringing back the "Soccer Show" as a podcast. You might want to upgrade to 9600 baud rate for better quality!!!
HDMI has been the standard for over a decade. I have a 2009 Sony Bravia that is still going with HDMI. So unless your TV is 15 years old you only have to spend $30.
DAMNIT. That performance + the ability to listen to the radio call over the league office announcers are gonna get my money.
Yep, that explains it. When I bought this TV it was the best in the business. I remember buying because DC United won the MLS Cup.
So far I’m loving what Apple is selling. Looks good, sounds good and only week one so it should keep getting better.
Is there a way not to see the score of a match before you watch the replay. I of course watched DC United live, but wanted to see some other matches and the final score is plastered right there on the thumbnail. Defeats the purpose if you know the score before you watch the match! I especially do not want to see the United score if I’m not able to watch it live.
