It is hitting us bad right now, for sure. But spurs had a bad spell with injuries earlier. citeh have had injuries to key players. We're not the only ones this year. Just proves the point that the players union needs to stand up and say they need a say in the schedules and they won't put up with around the calendar football. Demanding 4 weeks of rest every year should be the start. So this year May 25th - June 22nd would be a perfect time for this to have players on break (CL final should end all European club activities and it being on June 1 this year is unacceptable). Then play international tournaments July 15 - August 17 (players can have 2-3 weeks training leading into it) and mandate a minimum one week break for the players after the tournament before returning to their clubs (August 24th in the case of players making it to the final). Then Sept 1 - May 25 is the European club season with no player able to play in more than 52 senior club games (38 league, 12 CL, 6 FA Cup, 6 League Cup won't be feasible for a player) and no more than 6 internationals (gives FIFA/UEFA plenty of time to get qualifying matches in over a 2 year period and a few friendlies as well) - averaging out to a game every 4.5 days. Until the players so 'no more' and actually mean it, they will all have bodies broken by the age of 28.
The injuries are a worry, but not yet insurmountable. We've managed pretty well so far. (I think this year our squad is stronger than our competitors. And GK and our 4 and 3 and 3 lines all have adequate/very good replacements. So, it's holding as a competitive 11. Today was effectively City's game in-hand but their dropping points on Saturday means that they didn't symbolically edge past us while we carry a bunch or injureds.... I think that could be big. It doesn't really mean anything, but it is a good psychological omen.
Over the course of a season it does become insurmountable, for example I could argue had we Robbo/Matip/Jones fit for Luton we'd have won that game.
Absolutely ********ing mental. I really hope that question mark doesn't reveal itself after tonight.....
https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...s/liverpool-chelsea-could-20-players-28673313 Liverpool and Chelsea could have 20 players miss Carabao Cup final through injury
It's possible. I've no idea. Without injuries we probably win the 96-97 league (bizarre theories about attitude to dress and extra-curricular fun as memes aside). In any case, I did say "not yet" insurmountable. But after today's game we need to start getting additions in from the treatment room, not adding more out!
Any team would beat Todd Boehly's anythign.... and it's a delight to see it in its Pilgrim's Progress.....
pregame presser by Pep: - Dom, Darwin and Mo, we have to see. - Curtis back around international break - Trent after international break - Jota after international break - Ali after international break we'll be bare bones when City arrive
The way it was reported it seemed to imply that Mo and Darwin probably good to go, Dom maybe the bench.
his comments on those 3 were ambiguous (in writing anyhow) and unclear if they had actually been in team training yet.
Nunez looks ready to come back. Nunez 😂😂 #LFC pic.twitter.com/SFxn3DcloW— mathew (@mdeeks76) February 25, 2024
Dom, Mac, Nunez, Grav and Endo must feel like they've gone to football heaven. some days it does feel that way doesn't it?
Shock surprise, Klopp seems to confirm Thiago's season (and therefor Liverpool career) is over. Classy player when fit, practically never fit.
Not really - Dom, Mo, Nunez - still touch and go. Endo - real knock (another ********ing Caicedo special). Grav - not as bad as feared - maybe out for 2 weeks?
