As an Alumnus of Appalachian State University, I have to say that the ending to Saturday's game was the most unbelievable I have ever seen. I went absolutely insane. I know now what a bi-polar person must feel like. I went from the lowest of lows to the highest of highs in a minute. Thinking my Mountaineers were surely defeated, then winning.

I don't know if you saw the play. It made Berman's Top 10 plays of the week, the Plays of the Day, etc. App was leading Furman 14-9, and Furman scores with 7 seconds left to go up 15-14. To prevent an improbable game winning FG, they choose to go for 2, our DE, Josh Jeffries intercepts the 2pt. pass, and laterals to our DB who takes it the rest of the 97 yards necessary to give us 2 pts. and a 1 pt. victory. Amazing!!

Sorry if you think this is a stupid post, but I had to put it on here!! Go Apps!!

I don't know the most recent, but Montana is #1, I believe McNeese St. is #2, and we should move up to #3 with Maine losing. However, App has to play Ga Southern this Saturday, and even though they are having a down year, they are always tough in the place they call "Our House", Paulson Stadium in Statesboro. Should be a good 'un.

Oh, and SkipShady...are you an App grad??

Well I've been following 1-aa football for many years now I root for the northeast teams because thats where I live. This year Maine and Northeastern have the best shot from up here. Lehigh is struggling now I think they were ranked 3rd earlier in the season. No offense but I'd rather see Montana win it than a team from the Southern Conference though I do acknowledge they have the best teams.
On a releated note I read a while back that VMI was leaving the Southern Conference to join the Big South. Is this gonna happen do you know ?

Why are you stalking me SportBoy?

No, I lived in North Carolina for 9+ years and have friends who attended App State. I had the pleasure of visiting Boone on several occasion and while I know almost nothing about 1-AA football, I do try to follow App State.

    Happy now?

You two make a cute couple. Like Madonna and that guy that keeps climbing the fences at her homes.

I think this is the first time I have heard of a team winning a game because the defense scored 2 points on a failed conversion that was run back all the way. I have to think that if I'm the coach, it's very late in the game (maybe under 15 seconds) and I score a TD to go up by 1 or 2 points, I just have the QB "take a knee" on the conversion. I wouldn't even kick the PAT. (A blocked PAT can also be returned all the way by the defense for 2 points)

Well, of course I am glad that they went for it, but it seems to me that if you are up by 1 late, you go for 2. The last thing you want is a kick return down to the 40 (and ASU's kicker has hit a 57 yarder in a game before) and ASU wins on a long FG. I can't blame him for doing it, the last thing you think is going to happen is what happened, i.e. a returned 2 pt.'er

There was only six seconds left, if you can't trust your kick coverage to prevent a return for a touchdown just kick it out of bounds and give the other team the ball at the 35.

Exactly. If I score the TD with more than 20 seconds left, I go for 2 to cover the field goal. But with 7 seconds left, there is virutally no way they had time to advance the ball (by a long kickoff return or long pass play) and still have any time for the field goal.
