Ever wonder how Chupete Suazo got his nickname? Piojo Herrera? Cuchillo Herrera? Some of these nicknames are just the run-of-the-mill, shortened version of the player's full name (Kike short for Enrique for Enrique Esqueda) or may have some kind of story behind it (Jose Antonio Castro claiming his parents were spanish earning him the nickname "Gringo"). I certainly don't know them all. Share what you know. edit: I realize now the wording in the thread title can be a bit misleading. What I mean is players in the Mexican league, not just Mexican players.
I have no interest in knowing why they call J.A. Castro "el gringo", apparently you do, search b!tch. Candado
I c u trollin. forum's most worthless poster graces my thread with his presence. thanks! Thanks for your input. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on your way out Anyway these are the nicknames I've always wondered about. I can't believe I forgot about "Paleta." Thanks to Naquisima for bringing that to my attention. Also "Pareja"/"Parejita" Lopez, "Piojo" Lopez, "Bam Bam" Zamorano, "El Matador," "Tiburon" Sanchez, "Kevin" Rojas, "Pina" Arellano, "Venado" Medina, "La Gata" Fernandez, "La Chilindrina," "Chaco" Gimenez I'm sure there's others.
I remember I asked some Chilenos in their forum and appearently chupete means pacifier in Chileno. Not hickey like many of us thought. I guess it's after his shaved maceta. I remember they used to call some guy that played for Chivas and Santos "El Guameru". Never understood what that was for. Cuchillo is a cool apodo.
LOL you neg repped me......... I don't even remember the last time I was negged, I think it was a spazzo. That is the level you have fallen to, pretty sad.
That's actually exactly what I was thinking. I figured he just had/gave out a ton of hickeys and his teammates just started calling him that. I remember a friend of mine started getting called "Chupetes" for exactly that reason. Some more that came to mind "Barullo" - Bruno Marioni "Hobbit" - Christian Bermudez (stature-related?) "Jagger" - Israel Martinez (does not look like Mick Jagger. must be something else) "Topo" - Juan Carlos Valenzuela "Rolfi" - Daniel Montenegro (this was actually his dad's nickname but he inherited it) "Ruso" - Fabian Pena, Daniel Brailovski, Jorge Zamolgini "Pony" - Rodrigo Ruiz "Cheto" - Juan Carlos Leano "Hacha/Hachita" - Daniel Luduena "Cabrito" - Jesus Arellano Obviously "Bebe" Pavel Pardo stems from the fact that he has massive fucking front teeth, and "More" Juan Carlos Mosqueda stems from his skin color: moreno. I sure did. I only neg rep bitches though, so don't worry edit: holy shit there's a ton I don't know "Coco" - Jorge Gomez (I expect LMvCP to know this one) "Conejo" - Oscar Perez (probably because he's got hops) "Chelito" - Cesar Delgado "Kikin" - Francisco Fonseca "Chicharito" - Javier Hernandez
one you haven't mentioned - el maza - because he's from mazatlan. here's some i know that you asked- parejita - his dad was nicknamed pareja because of an other player he was good friends and frequently seen with him. during an interview, a reporter asked him "¿donde esta tu pareja?" and parejita is his son, hence the diminutive kikin - he brother who passed away was called kikin, and he used it as motivation to become a pro venado for his speed chicarito because his dad had green eyes like a chicharo some i've read but not sure chelito - because his last name is delgado, like el chelo delgado. perhaps to compare and differentiate pony - because of his leg size as far as ruso , many argentines are given nicknames because of they are perceived to from, judging by your last name that's how you get ruso brailovsky and zamogilny and turco mohamed and husain. fabian peña i heard because he looks russian cheto i heard gave himself the nickname hachita, apparently his dad was a hacker, el hacha.
Some of the more interesting/funny ones have been Cadaver 'Fumanchu' Reynoso 'Churpias' Flores 'Tongolele' Munuz 'Snoopy' Perez 'Pata Bendita' Castro 'Bucky' Romero (played in Toluca, born in the US)
speaking of tiburon, it's probably because he looks like one. i think el kaiser and el emperador are self explanatory.
So, no idea on "Coco" Gomez? "Cuervo" Ricardo Rojas "Woody" Jesus Armando Sanchez "Torito/Toro" Juan Carlos Silva, Vicente Matias Vuoso "Petrolero" Ismael Rodriguez "Gatillero" Juan Francisco Palencia "Tano" Fernando Ortiz "Pikolin" Marco Antonio Palacios "Chispa" Efrain Velarde "Chikis" Rafael Garcia "Cachas" Ismael Iniguez "Pollo" Dario Bottinelli "Misionero" Hugo Castillo
He scored an Olympic goal for America in a match that gave America their first professional title... I am looking at some magazines from the 60s but the interviews are about the game... I am also looking at some of the mags from fibra america (soy aguila) and some of his interviews are just about winning the title... there is a picture of him holding 2 coconuts..... perhaps its in reference to his nickname
I knew that much. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBe4XdPDVss"]YouTube - gol olimpico del coco gomez[/ame] Oh well. Guess some of these will always remain mysteries.
el cuchillo herrera got his nickname because his style of sliding; looked liked a knife being used to shank lols el gusano napoles, i guess because he would do the worm when he scored.
