DN has advanced the news that refs were approached in the 03/04 season to fix games envolving Benfica in order to guarantee bad results for the Lisbon team. http://www.record.pt/noticia.asp?id=719669&idCanal=11 One of the games was the 2-3 loss to Nacional.
Yesterday, Luis Filipe Vieira, said in Pros e Contras: "O apito (dourado) vai mesmo apitar" A ver vamos P.S. - Just do not forget the season 2004/05 when APAF was the portuguese champion:
This Nacional vs Benfica game was already news when 'apito dourado' came up. Not to mention PdC, named 'dirigente máximo' by a ref on a phonecall before a match, was yesterday cleared of all acusations envolving other allegations. Has I said, that's old news. The 'apito dourado' will now produce more than ever because our LPF administration is a mess, all we hear is Gil vs Belém and it's a good time to archive all pending issues. Have you noticed that, althouth it's a fact there were contacts with refs and so on, the League dindn't made any action, always waiting for the courts to act? Now, the LPF is ending, another management is arise, Valentim will continue one way or another.....
The truth hurts i see.....I make a post about the Apito Dourado and the first to run and post are FCP fans!!! Go figure!
Aveirenses, Here's something to refresh some memories. Starts on page 2 and this is from Benfica's official site. I hope your portuguese is better 'their' memories http://www.slbenfica.pt/pdf/verdadesdeturpadas.pdf
They're only real argument is that they didn't win the league. Which is true, they didn't because Porto scored one goal in the final minute...
Whatever helps you sleep at night. It seems to be the only excuse you can come up with, how about the fact that your team is proven garbage for the last 12 years and can only win a league title by relocating games.
You're seeing the things on the other way around. Not a question of making excuses, but to explain how Porto managed to get this successful in the last 20 years and not on the previous 80. Ever wonder why no team in Europe acheived that formula?
It could just be that, MAYBE, just MAYBE, Pinto da Costa is a good president... Lest we forget the times of Salazar?
Let the man rest!!! And we are the ones that hold on to the past!! PDC is not a good president, he is great. Anybody that commits as many crimes as him and is still free is a pure evil genius!!
When it's to bring up the wins in Europe, it's fine, but as soon as somebody mentions the S word, it's suddenly wrong, and Benfiquistas begin to realize they shouldn't talk about the past...
Look man, we both know the only reason Benfica is so well known is because Salazar carried them on his arm like a newborn. Benfica was basically Portugal's team. You guys had like the best 32 players of the league every year. Refs were afraid to call straight games. THerefore, i'm glad Benfica gets screwed once in a while.
