1. Spain 2. France 3. Brazil 4 England 5 Netherlands 6. Belgium 7. Argentina 8. Germany 9. Italy 10. Japan Dropout: Croatia Spain looked good against an easy Costa Rica team and shoots to the top of the rankings. But seven goals is seven goals in the world cup so they deserve to be top. Belgium was poor but they still won So they are ahead of Germany and Argentina. But disappointed with Belgium and don't think that they will generally be any better. They may qualify from their group but won't go very far I don't believe. Pains me to say it but Croatia is on the outside looking in. Germany might be in trouble given that they have to play Spain. By the time they get sharp, it might be over for them if Spain remains true to form from today. I have a sneaky suspicion Argentina will become sharper with the remaining games and could end up in the second round. Brazil still the unknown. England moved up by default. I enjoyed Japan but don't think that they'll mount much of a threat. Special mention to Canada. Interestingly, Italy moved up in the rankings.
They seem to have more supporters in Qatar. Jonathan David worked so hard for his team. He really only had one maybe 2 half chances, bur why didn't he take the PK.
Great question. I was a bit disappointed in Davies. Everyone gets that he's the Canadian star and has made it big in Europe, but he tried to hero mode things a bit too much today. He didn't trust his team mates enough and the PK was one of many examples today. Herdman should have been stronger on this pre game.
Kone is another one to watch on the Canadian team for the future. I think he's got a reasonable shot of making it in one of top 4 Euro leagues in the next 3 or 4 years.

Bruno was instrumental to the win once moved into the midfield. That right sided defense is suspect as a mfer. Lazy, unaware. Keeper almost blew it as well.
1. Spain 2. Brazil 3. France 4 England 5 Portugal 6. Netherlands 7. Uruguay 8. Belgium 9. Argentina 10. Japan Dropout: Italy Germany After the first game for each team, Germany is the biggest surprise as I thought they were not impressive at all and are in real danger of exiting after round two . Most pleased with the overall level of the so-called lesser teams even ones who lost, which will be making the competition more interesting. Spain has to stay top seven goals is impressive even against a weak Costa Rican team. Brazil is number two shading out France and having beaten a stubborn Serbian team. They look hungry but still having fun and if they maintain this level of seriousness, Brazil should be there in the finals. Best chance for an Asian or African team to go deep and maybe make the final four with some promising performances from those two continents so far. Italy going to drop out for now in acknowledgment of that. Germany falls off because they were not convincing for me and they have to play Spain next. As it stands they will be lucky to make it out of the group. Good showings by Cameroon and Ghana but still not yet convinced that they have the consistency to make it to the latter stages. Keeping an eye on Switzerland and Serbia as they were solid. Will have more of on opinion after around 2. Same with Saudi Arabia. South Korea look good and have the potential to go deep into the competition. Japan actually won so they would be ahead in the rankings. Both really play as a team in the truest sense. If Uruguay peaks at the right time they could go far. Not very clinical today but I expect it to click and if it does they will be tough to push out of the competition. Portugal looked better than I thought they would. Some nervous moments I expect them to sort out along with some positional adjustments. The presence of Ronaldo didn't hurt them as I thought it would so they are in the shout. They jump in the head of the Netherlands because of their scoring threat and despite some frailty in defense.
Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first player to score in five different editions of the World Cup (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022). Cristiano Ronaldo has become the third player to be both a country's oldest and youngest goalscorer at the World Cup, along with Croatia's Ivica Olic and Denmark's Michael Laudrup. Cristiano Ronaldo is the second oldest player to score at the World Cup (37 years, 292 days), behind only Roger Milla in 1994 for Cameroon (42 years, 39 days). He's the oldest to score for a European nation, overtaking Sweden's Gunnar Gren (37 years, 236 days) in 1958. Bruno Fernandes has become only the second Portugal player with two assists in a World Cup game, after José Torres vs Brazil in 1966. the last one was surprising
I literally wouldn't give 2 shits if Neymar imploded on the pitch. EDIT: And that implosion meant he ceased to exist and was wipe from reality.
I would agree with you but I want to see the best possible world cup. Hope so. I enjoyed watching him today.
Qater now look destined to finish with the worst record of any host nation, but every other team is showing they deserve to be competing at this level. Good tournament so far.
