Hey, all. I'll be interviewing assorted Crew players and other folks at media day next Wednesday. If there's anything (within reason) you want me to ask, feel free to either post it here or PM me. I'll try to work your questions in.
On international tours who gets more trim - Edson Buddle or Kyle Martino? Has Kyle Martino ever sold grilled cheese sandwiches at a Phish concert? Is the Busch really impenetrable? Does Freddy Garcia think skateboarding is a crime? Which MLS city has the...uh...most forward groupies? How's the free lunch buffet at Dockside Dolls, yo? If Brian Dunseth could be a tree, what type would he be? How long has Jeff Cunningham been a black soccer player? Do they really hate when Sirk stops by for Notebook material? Would Chad McCarty throw down with Jody Shelley? Is Nelson Akwari responsible for half time orange slices or does a clubhouse guy handle that?
not only that but he makes a mean veggie kabob san jose...i mean @imer's there, right? who doesn't? nah, brian's wife got the first two games, she was pissed that she had two games in a row.
How about a question regarding Buddle and Martino's upgraded status out of P-40? How does it feel now to be on the full roster with (presumed) better pay? Do the single guys hang out a lot after work, share apartments, carpool, etc? What's their favorite bar in Columbus? Have they tried the Rose n Thistle? Does Duncan get to laugh at his fellow rugby-obsessed countrymen who thought he'd never make it anywhere in soccer? What does he miss most about NZ? How is that green card coming? If you could improve one thing about the Crew organization, what would it be? Do you like noisey fans singing and chanting during the game? Or are you a soccer mom in disguise?
Ask Jeff Cunningham what it's like to go from being an African-Jamaican to being an African-American.
Re: Re: Anything you want asked at Media Day? I figured there'd be 15-20 jokers and maybe one or two good questions I hadn't thought to ask.
I don't care about how many they've gotten. Rather, I want to know how many girls' butts have they peed in?? ---Ahhh, Marissa...
Oh, there's clearly no disputing that. They're terrific. And to be honest, I've been trying to figure out a creative way to get fired. I suspect asking how many girls' butts the players have peed in would put me in the upper echelon of great "getting fired" anecdotes. Although it might get me banned from Crew Stadium. And that's not a chance I really want to take...
It's not so much that I want to get fired, as I wouldn't mind getting the sack. Don't really like my job, and I'd actually be better off financially in the short term if I was getting unemployment benefits (50% of my current pay for at least 6 months) and not having to pay for my kids to go to day care. Plus I'd get to see the kids more. I wish I had some sort of witty retort, but it's just mundane, everyday stuff. Of course, I don't have the guts to actually get canned, but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Obligatory soccer content: I'm really upbeat about the Crew's chances this year, but the strange thing is, this is largely the same group of players I was pessimistic about last season. Weird.
I had this same thought the other day too. I came to the realization that we knew this team had skill last year. We knew they could be a great team. However, they were missing only a couple key slots in the early going. Once those were filled by Garcia, Martino, et. al., we had one hell of a run. Ask yourself this -- How far away were we from getting the double?? 2 goals. However, I then asked myself, how far away were we from not even making the playoffs?? 3 goals. Oh great, now my head hurts! How can I feel this way about a team that was only 3 goals from DC United status last year??
On a serious note ask Buddle about his first cap for the US. How he was treated by the vets, what his parents thought ( who must be big soccer enthusiasts to name him Edson) and how much Columbus Crew helped him get his first call up.
