    How Soccer explains the world by Franklin Foer? Great book.

    excellent read. i gave a report on it for my government class. i think i got like a B on the report. it was pretty good.

    yeah I read that recently very interesting stuff on the Celtic Rangers rivalry and also on the Chelsea Head hunters

    I read it and enjoyed it as a book, but as a scholarly work on the subject, it doesn't come through...

    Just read it this last week. Was impressed with its scope, was not impressed with the writing or the almost complete lack of joy in the game.

    But did like his rather clear cut distinction between the globalists and the America firsters as explaining current American politics.

    I didn't think he quite proved his thesis, but it clearly showed that a lot of the fan appeal of soccer is not due to the game, but for these non-athletic rivalries. Since we have very few of these in the US, it is not surprising the game isn't more popular here.
