I feel like we're not too far away from that being a distinct possibility. BRICS added 4 more countries this year, 2 more have been invited to join, and 12 are partner states already.
If Russia gets Ukraine and China gets control of Taiwan, they could at least set up a viable alternative in the not too distant future.
So I guess America is no longer a super power then huh? Wouldn't be surprised if Brazil surpasses then in a few decades?
I feel like Brazil has taken a few steps back in the last decade or so. The initial setup was just BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) and then South Africa joined. This year they added Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the UAE. Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have invites. I'm not sure if they ever recover or if they just remain a founder of the group. I think it takes one more big economy to make the move for the rest of the world to seriously consider moving off the dollar, even though BRICS now has a larger share of the world economy than the G7 does.
I am so, so tired of hearing from people in red states that they're the "real Americans" or "average Americans." The "coastal elites" are just people who worked hard in school and continue to work hard in their careers. A lot of them moved here from elsewhere. I grew up in Georgia. They're friendly. They choose a more relaxed lifestyle than what we have. And that's fine. Valid choice. But that doesn't give them the right to lecture us about who's a "real American."
There are currently 34 nations that have expressed an interest in joining the 10-member BRICS group. I used to live in Malaysia, and I know that they have applied along with some other SE Asian countries. Some BRICS are now doing the bulk of their inter-group trade in their own currencies rather than going through the US dollar. The main issue is that they might see the US dollar as no longer the currency of choice for stashing their wealth and stop buying US treasuries and US bonds. Once that happens, the US Treasury will have to raise interest rates to entice buyers. And we all know the gnashing of teeth that occurs in the USA when the Fed rate goes up. https://carnegieendowment.org/research/2024/10/brics-summit-emerging-middle-powers-g7-g20?lang=en
I never said "real" Americans. "Average" can be defined various ways such as annual income. And typically when we say "coastal elites" we mean the Hollywooder (west coast) and Wall Street hedge funder (east coast) crowd who can afford double digit annual inflation hikes. I found it funny that to appeal to average Americans, the Harris campaign trotted out wealthy elites like Oprah, Julia Roberts, and the Obamas. Like they can relate to us. BTW, what percentage of Martha's Vineyard is Black? Asking for a friend.
OK then, "average." Like the parents of a slain soldier who spoke at the Democratic Convention about the lack of respect Trump has for veterans. Or the Capitol Police officer who testified about the horrors he faced on Jan. 6 and the injuries that led him to retire. Seems to me "average" Americans are fine with double-digit inflation, because that's what we're going to have with tariffs and an immigration crackdown. Then answer this -- who's a more "average" American, Donald Trump or Kamala Harris? My guess is that it's not the one who inherited a ton of money and nearly squandered it but was bailed out repeatedly in bankruptcy, the occasional bit of fraud, and a reality TV show. But at least Trump will cut taxes on the middle class. Oh, wait -- that was Harris. Trump is cutting taxes for the wealthy, like "average Americans" Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk.
Also, for the record, the Black population of Martha's Vineyard is higher than the Black population of Utah. The Black population of New York and California is way higher than both.
Or Joe Biden staring at his watch while the caskets went by of the 13 soldiers killed during his botched Afghan withdrawal? Or the mother of Laken Riley who stated that neither Biden nor Harris paid attention to the fact that an illegal migrant murdered her daughter in Georgia? This after the illegal was caught-and-released in New York state for a different crime. Or Ashli Babbit who was murdered in the Capital after being let in by police officers? We've seen the videos of officers are lining the hallways watching people walk up and down the halls taking selfies. Oh, you're a world-class economist now making solid predictions, eh? Deporting illegal migrants who are using up scarce city resources sounds like a cost savings. Just ask NY City mayor Eric Adams. Trump inherited $3 million and turned it into $2 billion. Or maybe you don't understand multiplers. That would be, inherited $3,000,000 and turned it into $2,000,000,000. Does that help with your understanding? Kamala could be "average" if average meant sleeping with a San Francisco Supervisor to get her first appointment as a prosecuting attorney. Or getting to stage a coup on a sitting president to get him out of the race so that she could become the "nominee" without getting a single vote in the primary. Seems that I recall her dropping out of the 2020 race in 2019 after getting taken down, figuratively, by Tulsi Gabbard in one of the debates. This before any primary votes were cast. And who did Tulsi Gabbard support in this election?
I've visited Malaysia once, and really liked it. Went there with a PhD classmate who was from Brunei. It looks like Malaysia is currently one of the "partner states" that isn't officially part of the group but would receive support if needed. It really feels like a combo of going to their own common currency and one of the major central/western European countries joining would be the tipping point. I'm not sure if anyone would be willing to break off from the EU and join BRICS just yet.

Coastal elites like joe Scarborough and Chris Hayes. Two leftist scum buckets who have contempt for anyone who dares to shop at Walmart or the dollar tree.
When George Floyd was murdered and his murderer was found guilty by a jury, they were all "FAFO lulz hahahaha." Those cops on 1/6 were vastly outnumbered. What the hell were they supposed to do? It still doesn't give excuse to go in and behave like mongoloids. They defend the terrorist known as Ashlii Babbitt AFTER they play the "George Floyd should have COMPLIED" card. It's disgusting. Representative Joyce Beatty said that if those protestors were marching for Black Lives, the cops would have been in riot gear and 3-4 deep. She might not have been wrong.
Why on earth do you watch cable "news"? Yeesh! I'll grant you Rachel Maddow, sure. But the majority of us who went to college and landed good jobs (or, in my case, a mediocre job) in or near big cities are just smart people with big hearts. Come meet us sometime. We're pretty nice.
Exactly. Within my remaining lifetime, the BRICS group will likely grow in importance but won't replace the EU or Group of 7. However, the hubris of US politicians, both sides, that the status of the US dollar as the "reserve currency" which allows for unlimited debt issuance will take a big hit.
Yes, we have seen the endless loops of a few minutes of video from January 6. But what about the 40,000 hours of video that were kept hidden? And where is the report about the ~200 agent provocateurs in the crowd? The FBI has acknowledged that they had agents in the crowd pretending to be protesters but refuse to admit how many and who they were. https://www.foxnews.com/video/6322049576112
You realize Fox News has had to stipulate multiple times in court that it reports information it knows to be false, right? You want to call the Capitol Police officers liars, well, that's your right. But you're wrong. And saying this is "a few minutes of video" is like saying the Kent State protest of 1970 was nice and peaceful apart from those few gunshots that killed people.
Have you guys left yet?? I'll cashapp you a few bills to help pay for long journey to Australia or wherever. Lmk
