Nice of you to ask, but no one I know is going to Columbus.

But it would be fun. I've never been to Crew Stadium, but one day, I'd love to make the pilgramage, especially for a WC qualifier...

Your team played well last night, congrats.

Cheers, bajoro. We can only hope that we can maintain consistency. I seriously thought SJ would have been the better team myself.

I hope that Saturday is a well-played game for both sides. Of course, I'd like a Crew win, but I'd be excited to be treated to a really good match in the process. I hope the distance doesn't keep all the SJ fans away--or that the only fans SJ gets are the local teenies and "former Crew fan divas." :D

After reading over on the "Game 2 TV Info" thread where living_ded_boy said he didn't want his last memory of the Quakes 2002 season being trying to catch them on a low-power San Jose-based Vietnamese radio station in San Ramon, I thought I would check on the possibility of travel to Columbus. It's not as bad as I thought.

Flights can be had for under $300 on most major airlines -- I saw a United flight going on Friday night (red-eye to Chicago, arriving in C-bus at about 9 AM Saturday) and returning Sunday for $278. I only checked Friday - Sunday trips since I'm not sure you can get there on time if you leave Saturday morning, with the time difference and all.

The Days Inn Fairgrounds in Columbus is offering rooms for $45 on Saturday night. I stayed there before, it's not exactly a five-star resort but it's walking distance from the stadium, can't beat that.

Throw in some cash for a rental car and food and a game ticket and you can probably make the whole trip for under $500.

That said, I'm not planning on going. But I thought I would put this info here in case anyone wants to see the Quakes final game in person.

    Bill--

I'd rather donate the $500 to a "get a servicable right back" fund.

    :)

    Solskjaer --

We're all hoping for a well-played game--last night wasn't bad, it's just that for all the possession we generated, we'd like to see a few more dangerous chances on our side. Cheers!

If I'd know the season would've winded down to what it has, I really would've booked a ticket for their "final" game. :( I still have a glimmer of hope but my confidence is in the shits now.

goddammit! I can't believe that this crucial game is not being shown on TV! Maybe the crew deserve to win the series if the Quakes can't even get it together enough to ensure that their loyal fans can see the most crucial away game of the season! I am really pissed!

The Quakes being the champs, they really need a very good showing and if they go down, by submission means well, worse. Going down competitively and fairly and without a fight is what they need.

They just need a tie to bring the series back here and the games can go either way. They won last year there, and despite the horrendous record in regular season and playoffs a tie would be just as good as a win.

We're aware on how these games and teams are stacked on paper but a game has never been won there. (yep, that line.)

    Cheers!

Actually, I remember how before the first series last year we were all talking about how the Quakes had never won IN columbus, and how the best we could hope for there was a tie. Well, the Crew got a win at Spartan (against all odds) so maybe we can return the favor tomorrow!

If you've got internet access in your home you can get the game on Eagle 103.9 out of Columbus. We actually have a really great pair of announcers--the head (men's and women's) soccer coach at Capital University and the head men's soccer coach at Ohio Northern University. They know their stuff and the play-by guy is an excitable chap. YOu can even listen to it beforehand--they play the best 70s and 80s rock.

Here's the URL to paste into your WMP:

    http://eagle1039.com/Eagle1039live.asx

Getting a stream shouldn't be too much of a problem since it is a home game. Away games tend to see all of the streams used up.

This is one reason why I think someone needs to get more multimedia for Quakes games. If the Crew aren't playing that's who I follow. For some reason the Quakes site dropped the matchtrackers they were doing before, and there's no radio coverage on the internet at all...which is sad.

    thank you

Thanks Solskjaer! That'll definitely be the option to take if it's not on TV. I hope the Quakes can pull off at least a tie. :(
