I'm sure the new stadium that the MetroStars WILL be getting in the next couple of years will be another thing of beauty! With a roof too!
I'm not really jealous of the stadium so much. I'm jealous that the LA Galaxy have been given the same chance, rules, limitations, etc. as all of the other teams in MLS and they have made the playoffs every year since MLS began, won the MLS Cup, and the Regional Cup, that they would have gone to the World Club Championships if that event had happened a few years back, and that they have the same type of market as NY/NJ for the most part. They truly are a first class club and deserve the stadium.
Is that a power plant I see in the background, or maybe some sort of incinerator? They're not building this on HUD site are they? Is that how they got the funding to build this stadium. You've got to wonder maybe they're poeple just wanted it more. There's a nice landfill in staten island and I'm sure we could get the land for real cheap.
The photo gives the impression that the stadium couldn't possibly seat 27,000. The sight lines are close and very cozy and will be difficult for any opponent to excell in such a venue. I'll expect the Gals to have a winning home record for many, many years to come.
You can't see the upper deck from that picture. go to the site and check out all the pictures. there is a second deck on only one side of the stadium...and behind one of the goals there is going to be a grass slope..we Galaxy fans have already named it Lalas Hill. THat could be used in the future to expand the capacity even more...
I'm ecstatic about the opening of an awesome SSS, particularly in a major market like LA. As noted, there are several places where this stadium can be expanded, starting with "Lalas Hill." But the best part is that it creates an awesome atmosphere that will likely be a sellout or at least substantially sold out for most games. This makes for a great TV atmoshpere. The more TV exposure that MLS can generate in that stadium the better. Also, keeping capacity significantly below demand creates demand not only for the tickets, but also for the TV product. If MLS can get the non-MLS soccer crowd in SoCal to start following MLS, their market would rise almost exponentially. Hopefully, Memo Gonzalez--stud US Youth International and son of two Mexican immigrants--can help that along. He's going to be a star, he has the soccer skills, leadership and charisma. Hopefully some of the SoCal potential fans will begin to embrace this scintillatingly talented young soccer player. Next on my "wish list" is to get the Harrison METROstadium built (OK, well that's my name for it ). Once built, I think it could become just as significant as the Home Depot Center for MLS and US Soccer. New York commands respect internationally from being the largest city in the US and one of the financial capitals of the world among other things. Not only will it staunch the bleeding economically, but also conceptually it will herald the legitimacy of MLS to many current non-believers. Congrats Galaxy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you Metros. -Tron
Still looks cozy to me, and that's not a bad rap. I'd love to experience a game there this year, but I wonder if I'll be able to get a ticket. I think Victoria St. will become a very hot item come June 7.

Now this is a true "class" fan. It means even that much more since you're a Metros fan. I would like to take this chance to reciprocate the luv and hope that the Harris Stadium Project goes through as well and you guys get the stadium you deserve - that every team in MLS deserves.
