I dont know about you guys but its kinda sad to see the curtain fallin on FIgo and Company in regards to National Team play. Just got done watchin some old highlights and got sentimental.....suedade (spelling?) Port vrs Neth..Pauleta getin hauled down in the box and lookin up at the sky thankin god when the penalty was called knowin FIgo was takein the shot..classic.... Port vrs Eng..Figo scorin from practicly midfield is a joy to watch every time. Know I know how Avo feels when he goes on about Eusebio.
aint that the truth. What passion that guy has to. Saw a special on RTP about him recently didnt know his knees where that shoot when he played. Saw some vicious penalties on that show.
Figo was one of the best ever, we are talking about a player that have more than 100 caps for the A team and scored more than 30 goals... A still believe he will play at least until 2006, hoppefully he will change his recent attitude in the National Team...
Its sad to see them go but in a way its also good because it gives young players like Ronaldo their chance to shine.

Guys,Guys ,Guys,your thread sounds like the world is falling Because RUI COSTA,FIGO,PAULETA and others are going to retire. Well besides FRANK CUNHA im problably the 2nd oldest here,and have been watching Portuguese soccer for a long time. Portugal has always produced great players,and will continue to produce ,trust me. I agree that the golden generation projected Portugal into 3 consecutive EURO CUPS 96,2000,2004 and wc 2002. However before these guys we had a great EURO 84=CHALANA,JORDAO,NENE,BENTO,ANTONIO SOUSA,INACIO. Than we had other great players in the late 80s=Paulo Futre,Rui Barros,Paulo Sousa(only Portuguese player to win 2 CL cups ,for 2 diffrenet clubs in 2 consecutive yera(Juve/dortmund). We also had other greats like CARLOS MANUEL,JAIME PACHECO,RUI AGUAS,JAIME MAGALHAES,LIMA PEREIRA,DIAMANTINO.ALVARO MAGALHAES. Our future is bright camaradas. RONALDO,QUARESMA,VIANA,POSTIGA,SIMAO,CARVALHO,MANICHE,MAKUKULA,HUGO ALMEIDA,DECO,CARLOS MARTINS,JORGE RIBERO,MIGUEL,MOREIRA,RICARDO COSTA,BRUNO ALVES,MARCO CANEIRA,MEIRA,jesus christ the list goes on.
i agree, who will replace them? i have only know this golden generation, it'll be hard for me to accept the new one...with its young whipper-snappers.

I still missed my first generation and I could put my team against any team in the world Jose Pereira, Costa Pereira, Vicente, Matateu, Germano, Coluna, Hernani, Jose Aguas, Eusebio, Torres, Simoes, Jose Augusto, just to mention a few
i call them the younger generation. it'll be awkward seeing them as the "golden generation" ....but such is the way of life. the old get older and die, the young get older, then older, then kick the can as well. i guess i'll have to accept them growing up... *cries* LOL
yeah, but they are the babies of the team, its always sad when babies grow up. well, not the really young ones, i hate the ones that poop all over things and vomit all over everything in a 2 foot radius. its nasty, especially when there are twins like that, then its almost as dirty as a woodstock moshpit...lol.
Please direct your insults at foreign players, not our own. This is the problem with Portuguese fans so ready to dump on our players. Figo has given us and probably will continue for awhile to give us some splendid futebol. We will surely miss him when he retires. I think choke is a strong word....they were beaten by a team that was better prepared and more fit. Remember they beat us twice. Part of being great is to lose with dignity and I believe the Portuguese National Team did just that!! They gave us all a tournament to remember.......
