So let me get this straight....the U.S. as in UNITED STATES Open Cup, is having the championship of our American tournament on Gol TV? The Gol TV which is a Spanish cable package deal that most Americans don't have? Also, is there really no live stream for free? (Legal) Even to the MLS Live Subscribers? It's not a race thing, I just feel if we can't take this cup seriously it's just a step back to taking this league seriously. Which is then a bigger step back for everyone else in the world taking us seriously. But maybe it's just me -___-
<soapbox>it is just you. The American championship is the MLS Cup, which is nationally broadcast.</soapbox>
I was reading all the run up to the match, and I didn't even realize it was on GolTV. Haven't watched that channel in ages, and just realized that when I cut my FIOS package back, that I no longer get it. Haha...fail on the USOC's part. Guess they won't get this viewer tonight.
i agree with you, but maybe its also the first time anyone was willing to pay for it instead of it being free. Unfortunately no one outbid GolTV
I have goltv in English through an English language tv package. A few years ago I don't think this would have been a big deal, but goltv has really taken a beating the last few years.
The production values are awful in the pregame, you're not missing anything. The camera is making me seasick.
The only problem is that the Union aren't in the final and that diving, whining, cheap shooting team SKC is. They're up to their old tricks tonight too. Anyone else find it ironic that SKC is praised for playing "attractive" soccer yet they always resort to a physical unattractive style? Yes I'm still salty a month later after those asshats and their 12th man stole the semifinal from us. GolTV's announcers are almost as bad as Rigby and Not JP were for the Montreal match..... Almost as bad.....
The Wiz flopped, whined, and fouled its way to another win. Got plenty of help along the way from the ref, including a dubious call during the PKs. It's very strange to see yet another USOC game called so favorably for the Wiz. I would not be surprised if we found months or years from now that they did in fact buy the refs in the latter stages of the competition.
It always comes down to the refs: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/08/09/usoc-we-played-against-crowd-and-ref-laments-schmid Now I know why he's always wearing those SSFC scarves ... to wipe away his tears. I mean, FFS, he's been bitching about almost every aspect of the USOC. Lose graciously ... And it'd be freaking epic if SKC folks did in fact pipe in "We Are the Champions" to the Sounders' locker room post-game.
sure sounds like it is. I have goltv as a channel in my spanish package but there is also Gol TV in english so I'm not sure what the complaint is. and they even had a guy on the field reporting and he was speaking in english. probably no one else bid for it or even showed interest in showing. More than likely it wouldn't even have been on tv at all like the rest of the USOC games.
As much as I wanted both teams to lose, the lesser of 2 evils is SKC winning. I don't know if I could handle listening to SSFC fans if they won their fourth straight.
Isnt this the same manger for the team that gets pretty much full home field adv every round for the past 4 years? Sit the F*** down Sigi
I could say we're all gonna die one day and you would disagree with me Buddah so think whatever you want... I can't find highlights on MLSsoccer.com but i see Real Madrid/AC Milan highlights...has anyone seen the highlights on the site?
You guys have gotta be kidding me. I don't like Seattle, but the Wiz is hands down the scummiest team in the league. They do not play soccer; they play thugball. On top of that, the ref basically called the game for them just as the ref called the game for them when they played us in the semi. He gifted them a PK during regulation and called back a PK during the shoot out because Gspurning was off the line. But he did not make the same call on Nielsen, even though Nielsen came off his line even earlier than Gspurning did. This result - especially after how lopsided the semi was officiated - should make us question whether or not the officials were influenced to call these games for the Wiz.
I'll admit that we have a couple of players on the squad that can be nasty. Garfan is at the top of that list, followed by Gomez. But when they go out on the field, they go out to play. The Wiz does not actually play. They dive, cry to the ref, and foul repeatedly while putting 11 men behind the ball, hoping to score off a counter or, more likely, a set piece. Rinse and repeat while buying yourself a ref or two and you have yourself a trophy. A team of thugs comes out at the end of a joke of a tournament. It's fitting.
not that GolTV doesn't suck or anything, but it does come on the same package as Fox Soccer for Comcast.
A little gas for this fire...............SKC was NOT carded at all last night............... Just saying..... They're the MLS equivalent to the '90's Devils of the NHL............ Clog the middle, play super physical, and score an ugly goal. Wash, Rinse, Repeat. I don't know what was more brutal..... trying to watch that "match," listening to GolTV's $h!tty coverage, or the fact that SKC won again due to a questionable referee's decision.
everyone dying is the only thing that is guaranteed in life, so we would agree there. But you are complaining about a game being on a spanish tv service even though it was on the very same service in english and you comment on it as if GOLtv shouldn't have had it because "the U.S. as in UNITED STATES Open Cup, is having the championship of our American tournament on Gol TV? which is a Spanish cable package deal ". So your saying it should have been in english or at least not in spanish even though it wasn't. Your complaint should have been about other stations not bidding for it or not bidding high enough for it and not the language of the broadcast as it was in english on GOLTV. the english one. And they even bother sending someone out there to report from the field in ENGLISH. Also the underline tone, of that because is the US, American and the USOC it should be english is hillarious, 1 because it was in english on GOLTV but 2 because many americans speak another language with a high percentage of them speaking spanish. so having it in spanish is not any less american than having it in english. born and bread in the US. not even talking about politics, immigration, legal or otherwise.
I guess we can all take solace in the fact that SKC will be playing on a lot of fronts next season, which will distract them from league play. Also, if they play CCL matches like they did against the Union & Sounders in the USOC, and recently against NE in league play................. they'll be down a man in the first 20 mins. That style of play won't fly outside of USSF borders.
yeah and if I understand correctly Mexicans and Americans (canadians too?) don't play each other in the beginning stages so they will have a hard time playing (with the refs and style of play as you point out) in places like El Salvador, and Honduras if that is where they end up in. Not Costa Rica because the Union already showed them how they do things here while on their box training before the season.
I'm saying that GolTV is a network that most people don't have that predominantly plays La Liga and has Spanish commentary. I know there is GolTV Canada and others that have English commentary, but I feel like the MLS could have branded this tournament to where it was on MLS live or offered a live stream. All I know is that my GolTV is surrounded by Spanish channels and many may think it was going to be spanish commentary (like I did) And to an extent, the U.S Open Cup is about the U.S. That's why Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver didn't participate. The argument is not why I'm upset an American Tournament is on (what I thought) was a Spanish channel, but why isn't the MLS taking this tourney serious enough and branding it as the tournament it is. Do you think the FA Cup would ever be exclusively on Galavision? And I know I know..this isn't the MLS' tournament...but I still feel like they should be helping make this a bigger tournament than what people consider it. And taxes.....death is the one thing guaranteed...and taxes.
That really doesn't/wouldn't make any business sense. US Soccer profits from the tournament (if it makes $). All the sponsors on the ad boards last night were US Soccer sponsors. Several of them conflict with the MLS, i.e. Nike vs. adidas. I imagine the MLS also feels that the USOC "clutters" the landscape since it wants to emphasize the importance of the MLS Cup. It was interesting that Nelson Rodriguez was handing out medals after the game.
