Is anyone is coming down to Charleston for the 29 Mar "Coffee Pot Derby". The Three Lions Pub should be open for the US/Japan game that afternoon followed by the Battery/United game in our wonderful little facility. If you have any questions about the match, where to stay, or what to do in Charleston, PM or contact me here. Mikey
I'm packing up my diesel Jetta for the weekend. I'm going to be like Kramer and see how far past E it will really go. I'm thinking atleast Fayettville, N.C. That should be a really fun weekend and I'm looking for good weather too! I'll see you at the pub for the U.S. game Mikey. Rich
I'm not going, but I know at least a couple of people who are...GM, aren't you and Lonnie heading down?
Yeah, I think we've got three or four going down to Charlestown. After all, I've got to say howdy to the DC United scarf that's under glass there. GM
I'd love to go. My mom lives a piece up the road (ok, it ain't close but it's in the state) in Aiken. I've always wanted to check out Blackbaud and the 3 Lions. Especially the 3 Lions.
I could probably be talked into driving if we could get a few other knuckleheads in the mix. Your rival in erudition.
The Three Lions Pub is definately a must see. Blackbuad is really is a great little stadium too. My first experience of the pub was walking up the stairs (the pub is on the second floor) and seeing all the autographed EPL jerseys. They had ever one, in order of how they had finished the previous season in the stairwell. After walking into the pub I saw an autographed Pele jersey, the jersey Gary Linekers (sp?) wore during his last England match, An autographed 66 WC England shirt, autographed soccer balls, scarves from around the world, the list goes on and on. Plus after the match the players (the Battery players all do) usually hang out for a couple hours. Sadly, I probably wont be there. See my "employer" has been so nice as to send me to an "undisclosed location" to perform my duty. Fortunately, I have access to Internet and will be listening via the webcast very late at night (or early in the morning) Things are slow here at the moment so I have lots of time to respond to discussion boards, and anwser any questions about the city and club I have fallen in love with.
Hhmmm. I made it from Columbia, SC to Falls Church this past May in my diesel Jetta and still had just under a 1/4 tank left. Fayetteville and then some I should think. At least to South of the Border! Come down to the "Holy City" it's a nice place, plenty of non-soccer diversions to fill up the rest of the weekend.
As a coffee pot salesman, I find this to be a good opportunity! [cartman voice]Yeah, I want to go to Charleston! If you get in my way, I'm going to kick you in the nuts![/cartman voice]
I think we're going to have 2 cars... My Jetta will be racing my girlfriend's BMW down 95. I think I'll catch her while she stops for gas! We may also have an Escort wagon too if we need it. Right now I think we're 6 or possibly 7. The more the merrier. But of course people always bail when they find out who they're sitting next to in the car for 8 hours.
I have made Ft. Meade (between DC and Baltimore) in around eight hours. And thats in a big van. Watch out for SC cops, they have unmarked Trans Ams and Mustangs as I have found out. Mikey
Also, when the fine folks from BMW opened their plant near Greenville several years ago, they donated a 535i to the Highway Patrol. So, SC may be the only state in the union with a Beamer packing a uniform, blue lights and a .357 magnum. BEWARE! P.S. It's also unmarked.
For those that can't make it, the match will be available on webcast via the Battery website. www.charlestonbattery.com and look for the "webcast" button.
It being unmarked is a good thing. Having the words "South Carolina State Police" painted on a Bmer would be sacraligious.
Less than two weeks until this match. Charleston have signed Rick Titus and Jamar Beasley. The Battery have a tough defense and have some winning strikers up top. Looks like it could be a tough match for United.
