Had a season ticket during the 2000-01 season. Everton fans are not a loud "home" bunch. Don't get me wrong, we sing, etc. but it's usually fairly quiet. "Away" we're crazy loud! Goodison itself is an older stadium with lots of charm, but we could do with a new stadium. Has there been any further word on KD?
I absolutely love GP. It's my favourite place in the universe. I haven't been to the UK since 1999 though, so it's been a while. My last game was an abysmal home loss to Forest (anyone remember that?). Perhaps the home crowd is a bit louder now that the good times seem to be on the way back. We didn't have much to cheer about through the 90s! Away games are fantastic - there's so much atmosphere in the EFC section. I went on a tour of GP in 1998, which was fantastic. Dave Hickson conducts it, and you get to go pretty much everywhere in the main stand. It's great value. Latest word on Kings Dock is that it is to continue, but without EFC. Very disappointing. I hope we stay at GP now.
Grew up in Bootle in the 70's, my mates and I would walk to Goodison Pk. Would travel to the away matches. Back then we were very loud. Mind you there were a lot more people in the street end back then, the boot walk was famous, but after a match you were always a few inches thinner. You would run to the Park end to pinch a couple of scarfs from the away supporters. before making your way home.
yeah, i've been once or twice for me, there's nothing like it. gladys street, lower tier. beautiful. looking forward to west ham as we speak.
Question I'll be there in April for the Newcastle (which will be my second EPL game to go to after the ManU/Liverpool game the day before) Any suggestions on what to do in the area before the game, etc.?
Rumours are that EFC are looking at a site near the end of Queens Drive for a Plan B stadium. Also, there's a board meeting on March 21, in which it's alleged that they may have found funding for Kings Dock, which leads to the question of whether it's too little, too late.
Where's Queens Drive? I wonder how the hell they could finance an alternative stadium if they couldn't scrape together 30m as partial funding for KD. I can't see KD happening now, but hopefully they can pull something out of their collective arses.
KD definitely no-go now We're Staying Put So no new stadium for EFC for the near future and the RS may be closer to getting theirs at Stanley Park if they overcome the final hurdles. Not a good situation for a Blue these days.
Re: KD definitely no-go now I read the same thing yesterday. Oh well, I'd rather us work our way out of debt and have a little money for the team, than tying ourselves down like Arsenal are going to have to do until their stadium is built.
My one and only Premiership match. I managed to see the derby in 2001, a 3-2 loss, alas -- wild game, terrible officiating. I had a blast, though!
I went last year to the Sunderland match. Here was the post I made about it afterwards, since this thread has asked about our experiences
I'm gonna make a few trips this season. Hopefully to the Spurs and Rovers matches...like to try to get a few matches with the Yanks as well. Would have liked to go to the derby vs 'pool, but unfortunately, it came too early in the season for me to make arrangements :/
Here are all the goals McBride scored for Everton. http://www.blue-all-over.co.uk/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=2377
Some good goals First time I've seen that second one against Sunderland. Nifty. Bit painful to watch the one he scored against us at The Lane, though. But the video clip reflects the speed and pace of the Premiership. I visited Goodison Park last May. No match on, but I managed to find an open entrance, thanks to a maintenance man, and I took a look around and snapped some pix. Despite the fact that it's an old stadium, it oozes character (a cliche, I know, but that's the best way to describe it). The lucky bastard who's going to see Everton vs Spurs, have a great day, despite of course, your unfortunate loss to a Kanoute brace.
Re: Some good goals I've got that game on tape, great game, but the end result is a bit painful to me.
ryan... Could you get me a copy of that tape? Even if it was a loss, it was a great match..especially neat seeing 2 Yanks go at it... also, if someone ANYONE has a copy of Everton - Sunderland, I'd like a copy of that as well... shipping and tape costs covered obviously
I can try to. I'd have to hook two VCR's together, which I've never done before. And I don't know how soon I'd be able to. I'll get back to you on that one. Same here. Or if anyone has a really good Everton game from a while back, sometime in the 90's etc., I'd love to get a copy of that, of course I'd pay all expenses. Or if you know where I can find a tape like that on the internet, let me know.
