Not if you went to Catholic Schools. You do your Lenten penance through Easter and no Sundays off. But technically Lent ended last night.
Yes, we have a winner! I fasted from social media for Lent this year. Definitely tempting at times but I made it through. I have come to believe that, in 10 years time, we'll look back at Facebook and ask ourselves, "What were we thinking?" Cf. how we think about disco. I did get my maintenance assessment done. Men's league game, temps in the low 40s and raining, so I knew that nobody was going to have a fun day out there. Red team has only one sub. Three minutes in, one of their players has the ball at his feet. An opponent comes in from behind and slides his foot between the first guy's legs, poking the ball away clean, just as the red team player tries to turn. His foot was kept from moving by the opponent's leg and he goes down in major pain. No foul, in anyone's opinion, but he's done and his team is down to no subs. Later, one guy gets fouled in midfield and the two of them come up glaring at each other. Teammates and I got them away and both got cautions. A few minutes later, I gave a card I have never given before. Black is trying to take a throw-in at midfield and a red player is standing less than a yard from him. I tell him 'get out of there, red.' No movement. Black does a very gentle bounce, almost a dropping, of the ball on the guy's forehead. I hit the whistle and gave red a caution for failing to give two yards. Of course, he claimed that black should have gotten a caution also. I told him that he was inciting black to do it, and we played on. Got a 78 from the assessor. Then I read the game report from the next game of the black team. Terminated game after one of their players got his jersey grabbed. As the whistle blew, the opponent swung his elbow back and hit the black team's player. During the "discussion" about this behavior, and before the referee can hand out plastic, a black team player comes running in from 30 yards and launches himself, straight leg, cleats into the spine of the guy with the sharp elbow. There didn't seem to be any reason to finish the game after that. Made me feel pretty good about my game control the previous week!
My state's SRA stepped down and I asked two folks I know who would be good at it if they would be interested. I got laughter from them.
