Brenham plays for the chance to play for the 4A state title.... the semifinal is at 6 Thursday in Georgetown. I was wondering if anyone (MBean, maybe?) was planning on going. I'll be wearing a Dynamo jersey (if I remember, I have to leave straight from work, I hope I remember tomorrow morning when I go to work at 6 ) so look for me.

The finals are Saturday, so Dynamo fans will be otherwise occupied.

I would love to go up there and support Coach Lane and the boys but it is too close to TAKS testing and I don't coach basketball or football.

I really wish I could be there today... but work and picking up my daughter from school and afterschool gymnastics occupy my tuesday/thursday afternoons and evenings.

I got there moments before the game (nobody told me they've moved the game from the old stadium to a new one, come on UIL, let me in on these things ) and the first half was pretty dull, not a lot of chances, it ended 0-0.
The second half was much faster, Brenham scored first, then in the 30 seconds it took me to get a diet coke El Paso scored. Then EP scored again on a power shot taken about 30 yards out, then Brenham scored again to tie the game. But EP made another great shot late that won the game.

To me, these games are really fun. It's amazing that so many El Paso fans came half way across the country and brought their Mexican cheers with them. And it's always cool for me to see Brenham games. The fans are pretty much like East Bernard football fans, only in an alternate, cooler universe, where people don't mock soccer but embrace it and are actually excited and knowledgable about it. Really cool stuff.

I got a chance to talk with the coach at Sealy who I'd never met, though I've been to a lot of their games. He was sitting in front of me for a half before I realized who he was. Like I posted last year, he and his program deserve a lot of credit. Though not extremely successful in the w/l category, they play hard for a 3A school in a 4A division. Last year was their first year and the boys don't have a lot else in school to motivate them, but thanks to the soccer program their grades and their attitudes have improved greatly. These are the kind of kids that often go overlooked in a lot of smaller schools like ours. This year they missed the playoffs by 1 point he said, but look out for next year!

    I found this interesting.

Why do the boys on the soccer team have little else to motivate them? I guess I'm trying to figure out how they're any different from all the other boys and girls who participate with the school's other athletic teams or students in general?

I'm glad the boys have improved their grades (I assume TX still has the no-pass no-play rule) and I'm trying to appreciate your point, but I'm having difficulty seeing how they're different than everyone else in Sealy.

That said, is Klein HS in the playoffs this year? If so, GO KATS!

    ;)
