Was just wondering how many of Sam's Army can we, in L.A., expect for the friendly in January against Denmark?? Yes, I know that the Danes are not bringing their "A" squad, but SOOOOO WHAT?????? It's OUR first game of 2004 & it's OUR first game at the "new home of US soccer" the Home Depot Center, which IS an AMAZING stadium. I HOPE that Sam's Army will make an "impression" on the US fans in Los Angeles. Contrary to public opinion, there are a lot of us here. Besides, the weather in sunny L.A. beats the weather in MOST of the USA in January!!!! GO, USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm 50/50 on coming at this point. I really need to get away for a few days, so there's probably agreater chance I'll go than not. Are you up for a pint or two Alex? Kevin
Opponents in the LA area in the last ten years have included: Bolivia Jamaica El Salvador Switzerland South Korea Estonia Armenia Columbia Romania Honduras T & T Brazil (3 times ) Guatemala Denmark Iran Mexico too!
Opponents in the southeast in the past 50 years... (besides Florida) umm... lets see. Ecuador Tunisia...
Re: California Dreamin' HARD liquor is more my thing than beer but, HELL YES, I'm up to drink like crazy that day. MUST toast the USMNT & it's worth the trip, to see the "new home" of US soccer!!! Hope you can make it, Kevin.
3 of us will be first time Sammers Been a US Soccer fan for several years - good time to sit in the Sammer section I think. I sure hope that the HDC accomodates Sam's Army and puts us where the Riot Squad usually sits (much louder in that area under the roof). Sticking Sam's Army on the south end (the side with the grass) wouldn't be good.
I'll be out there for this one. On a total coincidence, I was planning a trip out there that weekend anyway. Now it's gotten a whole lot more exciting.
I'm seriously looking into this. I have the days off I can use. Just need to get prices for nearby hotel/motels. Tickets look rather reasonable. Just have to find the Sammer section, and grab some red clothing.
Ikari, try www.motels.com or www.bestwestern.com for hotel prices. Hopefully, they'll be reasonable. As far as the Sammers, I replyed on another thread that it's 142, which is right behind the goal. Hope you can make it. You'll LOVE the Home Depot Center, American soccer's "NEW HOME."
Defining the "southeast" as the old confederacy east of the Mississippi, this is what I've come up with in addition to the two Birmingham matches you've listed. New Zealand - Richmond, VA 2003 *Richmond Kickers - Cary, NC 2002 Trinidad and Tobago - Richmond, VA (WCQ) 1996 Moldova - Davidson, NC 1994 Ukraine - High Point, NC 1993 Canada - Greensboro, NC 1992 Jamaica - High Point, NC 1991 Trinidad and Tobago - High Point, NC 1991 China - Atlanta, GA 1977 Canada - Atlanta, GA (WCQ) 1968 If you're not picky, the Youth national teams have played in the southeast numerous times, and the Womens National team a bunch. ---- I haven't decided about LA yet. With the draft on Friday in Charlotte, and some interesting meetings on the future of the WUSA on Saturday, I may not make it out.
Re: Soccer-Friendly Gathering Pubs Not sure what Sam's Army's plans for the weekend of January 17-18 are in L.A. or how many of Sam's Army are making the trip to L.A., but if you want a REALLY COOL soccer-friendly place to gather on that Saturday night I got THE place: www.thefoxandhounds.com It's located in Studio City & it's a GREAT place to watch soccer, the people are cool & the food and beer (not my thing. I'm a HARD LIQUOR dude) are plentiful. Hope to see a solid turn-out of Sam's Army at F & H, at least one night that weekend!!! Hope to get a good turn-out of Sam's Army for
Alright! You talked me into it. You got 2 more holligans coming from Seattle! Lets get this tailgate party set up!
Glad to see more Sammers coming. BTW the section is near the Riot Squad who are in 138. We'll be on the same side. Now the question is what do we do about tailgating. Are there any Chicago fans out there who can get their GM to allow a tailgating section. Wonder if there was tailgating at the La Liga games this weekend? I understand they were scaling the fencing around the stadium. There has been tailgating at Victoria Street but not for soccer fans unless its for the Mexican teams. Kind of a double standard here. We need some help in promoting the true nature of soccer fans as not being the rioting hooligans. I really miss those tailgate parties. I'm really happy to see a team other than South of the border. Hope there are a lot of Danish and US fans so the word gets out that fans will show up even if they are Euros. Its a melting pot of cultures in So Cal. Anyone from Solvang getting a bus together? Bring some pastries for us.
Welcome to sunny SoCal! As I write this, the temp is about 70 degrees - but that's because I'm sitting in front of my heater. I'd love to add to the turnout, but I'll be in my bikini on the beaches of Brazil. However, I'll check the game on the web and hope Sam's Army represents well. Make a weekend of it and fly in! Sam's Army folks are to remember that the South Bay is nice, but a very generic part of L.A. For more sabor, make sure to swing by Venice (to gawk) Santa Monica (good pubs) downtown (olvera st, chinatown, disney hall) Hollywood (of course) and BevHills (eye candy on Rodeo Dr.). Rent a car or carpool - there's really no nice hangout near the HDC, unless you want to end up at the Sizzler's on Avalon.
Drivin' in from Phoenix AZ A buddy and I are driving to LA from Phoenix for the game. Anyone know where we can get (cheap) tickets? I know I can get them online right now, but I'm wondering if anyone has extras they need to sell or if you think I'm better off just trying to buy from scalpers right before game time? Thanks! TLDreaming@aol.com
You can buy tickets for $18 for the game in the Sam's Army section. call: Chris Wode 310.630.2246 And say your with Sam's Army and want to buy tickets. You can order as many tickets for the game through him and there is a five dollar service change per order not per ticket. I seriously doubt the game is going to be a sell out
